just about to pick up a 2003 MXZ X 800. right now its in the dealer ship getting a new engine. the rings went out around 2800 miles. everything is being done under warenty, i dont know how, but i dont have to pay for the rebuild. i like the fact that im getting a rev with the updated rings and what not, but what else should i look for. when it was at the dealership they did do a 75 point inspection but they didnt say anything else was wrong. what are your thoughts.

Also I would check the shocks to make sure that they aren't beat to hell and need a rebuild before you start the season....

shouldnt the pto seal retainer be changed in the engine rebuild?
a nun is where your a arms connect to I believe they can get bent if you hit a stump rock big jump but can be replaced pretty resonably. Yes they should have put a retainer in or the new style case during the rebuild. I would call them and have them take a look or stop in if they have it on a lift already it will be easy to look at. The shocks may be in need of service depends on the miles and if they have ever been serviced before.

It did not come from the factory with a seal retainer. But you should have one installed.

Inspect the recoil. There is an updated vent ring that can be installed. It is supposed to reduce heat in the recoil assembly. If you have an aftermarket muffler, that may increase the temp in that area. I learned the hard way.
(Stators are expensive.)
Alright, I'm new to this, what's a nun?
It's also called a "flying nun". You may also encounter a "hamster tunnel", a mysterious whistle coming from the sled(after it has sat untouched for a while), and boots that might leak.

the warenty works like this. the original owner baught a $900 5 year transferable warenty. now i am buying the sled from the second owner. he took it in to the dealership it was bought from and they sent the warenty info to ski doo. they said they would pay for parts and 4.5 hours of labor to rebuild the engine. now the dealership said it would take 10.5 hours to do the rebuild and the owner has to make up the difference. the whole thing has taken about 3 months though.

See if you can order some mountains too? We could use some around here.

Seriously tho, make sure they give "New" belts with it?! 2 different dealers I bought sleds from gave me old wore ones and one never gave me a spare belt at all... But I have bought 2 other sleds from one of those dealers again and he made up for it. Make them change your slides too. They arent hard to doo but why should you? You are paying good money for a machine. Dont back down. Just my $.02.......
