Hello all.

Is there a specific reason why Ski-Doo is not painting front frame module of the sleds?

Has anybody here painted this section of there sled? Is so, what type of paint did you use and did it held up well?

I think they should to. But it will be cost wise

I painted that area black on my 23 Freeride. Looks so much better. Holding up good. Have to look to see what paint I used

I'll see if I can get my kid to get some pics on here. I'm not smart enough to do it.

Very interesting might just pull out the old spray gun and get single stage urethane satin finish automotive paint.

Whatever I used was something my buddy had , and it was in a can. Took longer to mask everything off than it did to paint it.
We used premium rust oleum satin black. Scuffed the aluminum up first to get it to stick better. Then put several coats of paint on.

How many milles did you put on it since painting-it and has how has the paint held-up?
Wow, looks way better!
Painted it before it was ever ridden. It's got 1600 miles on it now. Still looks like the day it was Painted. Seems to be holding up very well.

Use self etching primer first - it works great on aluminum.

I've used this same paint on plastic , no primer & it has bonded very good, I couldn't believe how well it has held up & it's not very expensive to buy, great paint !
If you’ve ever done any bodywork, you would know all aluminum needs an etching primer. Sure you can paint it but it won’t last that long. It will start coming off. sure looks good considering doing it to my new sled.
I am willing to bet that this aluminum has a clear alodine coating on it already. Otherwise, all of these sleds' various bare-looking aluminum surfaces would be corroding pretty rapidly and readily.

With alodine, you can paint right on top of it. I would not scuff the surface in this case, to preserve the alodine coating. And an etching primer would not be necessary either.

Clean thoroughly with a a good pre-paint cleaner/degreaser before painting.

this always drove me nuts. That and the fact they never powder coat the steering rod also drives me nuts
