Oxygen helmet - thanks a lot BRP

My wife an I each own Oxygen helmets and both controllers have failed. As I understand it BRP no longer sells the cord with the controller and their solution is to buy a new cord without the controller and a new FLOW face shield. I have seen reports that even with the added ventilation from the flow shield the helmet will get too warm when plugged in at full power. Also, the cord costs $50 and the face shield $180 which adds $230 to the cost of an already expensive helmet. Like I said thanks a lot BRP. I guess I’ll rip the bad controllers apart and see what I can do with them to cobble something together.

Not sure when you bought these helmets, but I believe the controllers have a 4 year warranty along with the helmet. I had a controller covered under warranty in 2023 on my O2. It was the old style controller that did not have a plug on the controller, it was wired on both sides of the controller.

I don’t think you’re required to run the new controller with the new shield. You can use the older style with the low/med/high for the new shield.

these are in stock:

To those who suggested sources for replacement controllers thank you but I am reluctant to spend an other $180 on a poorly designed high failure product. Skidoogear now shows that item as out of stock.
I believe that the new replacement cable runs the face shield at full power all the time. Searching skidoo.com does not show the part with all the other Oxygen accessories.
The solution I am going to try is shown in the picture. I took the defective controllers apart and found one with a broken input wire and one with a broken output wire. I replaced both wires and mounted the controller on the sled and spliced a new male RCA connector onto the helmet cable. Don’t bother to try this if you don’t have the tools and experience to solder printed circuit boards.

How are you guys that don't have issues running the cord through my jacket ain't working out for me.

I like it. I was thinking of just extending the wire for the controller and then velcro it down in the console. I've got a no controller wire coming. The heat isn't an issue for me. I crack the shield if face starts getting too hot.

Am I missing something? A new cord is $50USD or $65 CDN and works with the old shield or the new flow shield. Just doesn't have the 3 position controller which pretty much had to be on high anyway in order to prevent fogging. Did you want to maintain the 3 settings? You certainly don't need to buy a new shield although the new vent is nice adn the optics are much better.

I bought the new shield along with the new cord and have had zero problems. The shield is clearer and does not freeze up near your mouth, the old shield would not open and would be froze solid. I was told the new cord would not work with the old shield, but the old cord would work with the new shield? Doesn't make sense but again no problems here.

Follow up
We tried out the new configuration with the repaired controller mounted on the sled dash and the helmet cord converted to RCA plug only just like the new BRP cord. Not shown in the picture - I fastened the output end of the controller to the sled so that if the cord is pulled it won't affect controller wire. It worked well except I need better double sticky tape to hold the controller on the dash. I would like heavier wire on the controller but what I have seems to work.

I repaired mine because they are hard to find. I have two of these helmets. On my 4th controller. One was damaged due to abuse (it got caught on bumper getting stuck sled freed. i found the wire on the input being broken. I wonder in an event on the trail if it would be OK to hook up minus the controller. I fear too much current may burn up heating element.

I can state with confidence that the new flow shields ARE NOT as warm as the old standard shields.
I love my oxygen and with the old shield there were so many times that I felt I was in a tanning bed with the amount of heat radiating off the shield.

I purchased the new flow shield and am impressed with the vent because it does allow a sufficient amount of cool breeze in. But as I stated at the start of my reply the shield (mine at least) is NO way hot as the original.
