Hello fellow Dootalkers and welcome to Our Drag Racing Adventure. Its been a few years sense i did a build topic but we have been busy building several sleds to create our race team " Pelican Racing". Over the last few years we have been racing Snow, Asphalt & Grass. Might take a few pages to get caught up to where we are currently!

Thought it would be fun to share some detailed build pictures with whatever you want to see. Ask for anything and will try my best to give a description and a few pictures. Everything we build starts out as a bare chassis.

Alittle background on myself. My name is Aaron and I have been on Dootalk for almost 12 years with my reason for joining when i purchased a ZX 440x that i wanted to know inside and out. Many members helped me over my 10+ years including many companies sponsoring and helping me make a dream come true.

Our 2018 Summer Season plans:
September 15-16 Haydays Grass Drag
September 21-22 Sno Bash Grass Drag

Its a team effort .. Welcome to our team!

1998 Formula 3 - 700 Prostock - Snow sled

1995 Formula 3 - 600 Prostock - Snow & Grass sled

2000 Mach Z - 1000 Prostock - Snow & Grass

Are you coming back down for HayDays again this year?
You bet. Quite the learning curve last year! Will be bringing 3 sleds this year, Heading to sno bash the following weekend also.

Bringing a 600 XP improver , 800 XS pro mod twin ( the chassis in the last post / the one that spit its cookies during testing last year at haydays! ) & 1000 chassis pro mod

How about some carbon to get the project lightened up from Fourwerx carbon. A year wait on the custom one off hood - No vents / headlight cut - Moulded the gauge area larger and tilted up for our aftermarket VDO tach & Digatron egt gauge.

With the rear suspension in the pro mod 800 XS and body fitted its time to set the front suspension now that we have the rear to the height we want.

Upper A-Arm from a stock XP renegade I cut the support brace out / welded the holes up. Spun some aluminum bushings up to lighten the inside.

Next to remove the upper a-arm heavy ball joint spun some aluminum again then put it in the mill to slot it for a 14 mm wrench - then to tap it to accept a 3/8 heim joint.

Finished product- Wouldn't if achieved much from making a chromoly upper arm vs modifying the stock version... in my opinion.

For the bottom A-arm is where the weight saving will happen. Using chromoly tubing to build our own arm, spindle and spindle tube.

Made a shock mount with option for two lengths of shocks to switch from snow / grass etc.

Made a bung to go into the spindle to adapt the upper a-arm
1e2521f1dcc958a9fd37a396619fb0c1.jpg

Fully welded out with a box made to add strength to the spindle / arm mount. As we are racing this on snow it needs to be strong vs other surfaces can sacrifice some bracing.

This is the weight of one side. Made the bushings from delrin for the spindle to spindle tube.

Parts back from powder coating. We made pretty much everything in the picture. Battery mount , bumper etc.

And all installed.

Cool realizing it's a one off and exactly what you want for your application. This took a lot of time / made two width lower arms and many mock up attempts to get it exactly how I wanted but happy with the final result.

Bumper time- 3 of our sleds we did the same design on. Used 6061 flat bar and rounded the rear portion on the mill.

Do you make your own rear wheels and off set axles?
I wish, using a manual milling machine to make everything.

Only sled we use a offset axle in is a 600 XP improver I built for my girlfriend to race next year. Used a Tricked-Toys ( longtime Dootalk sponsor ) axle and 8" wheels in this one- Kicking myself for not using 9" wheels.
