I am replacing my 600 sdi motor and was wondering about the oil line above the oil pump that runs to the upper half of oil tank. I believe that is just a vent line. When I took it apart there was oil in that line. Is there suppose to be oil in that line or not?

its actually a slow drip the the waterpump/center crank case. it (line) is topped off when you top the tank off. sometimes a little gets in the line from normal riding when the tank level is lower, sloshes around. on avg a person gets 400 miles per tank of oil and that drip line lasts longer than that, no cause for concern

that line you see consumes little oil and is not a vent, its totally normal

The vent line is at the top of the tank and is very short, only connects to the oil tank. The lowest oil line from the oil tank goes directly to the oil pump via the oil filter. Including Ian's post that takes care of all your oil line locations.

P.S. Make sure the arrow on the filter faces toward the oil pump.
