NY registration

I know the topic was brought up about the $100 registration fee. For those of you non members, what did you end up doing? Join a club or pay the fee? This is my first winter out of college, so hell or high water Im riding every chance that I get. The $100 isn't a huge concern, yeah its a leap but oh well, what can you do. So anyways, instead of searching for clubs, and trying to get online registration forms, I think i will just end up paying the $100 and hopefully this year if I ride enough up there I can determine which club I think I should join, the one who maintains the best trails of course.

We ended up joining a club. We saved $140. by joining the club. We have three sleds to register and with the cost of the membership we will be paying $160 for all three instead of $300.
Unless you ride on your own property you should join a club. Who in the hell do you think puts up the bridges, stakes, and other stuff so you can ride. Let alone talk to all the land owners to get permission to have a trail system in the first place.
If you like snowmobiling you should join a club- or pick a new sport-sport!
Here is my 2 cents.

I have 3 older sleds. $300.00 to ride around the yard and head out on the trail once in a while. No thanks NYS.

Join the local club $40.00 gets you 2 sled registrations. I have 3 so add another $20.00.

What would it cost by joining a club? $35 reg fee + $10 county fee + $20 club fee = $65.00 a year for each of my sleds.

Heck, what is this state doing to the sport?

The trail goes right through my property. You think I would get a free membership. HAHAHA joke's on me. In NYS a club has the right to put its trail through your property with out asking. Another joke.

Okay I will stop.

Here you go.

Try that link. Join the club & ride! I think the club will use the $ where it needs it. If you go the $100 route the state of NY will just use it for other BS.
Why would you pay 100 when you can benefit a club, AND register your sled for $70?

"what is this state doing to the sport? "

trying to help it from being hijacked by DEADBEATS that is what they are doing...

its pretty simple really, don't pay, then stay off public trails, if you only stay on your property no fees need to be paid...

and while I think usually NYS sucks at almost everything, this is NO FAULT at all of the state, its the usual DEADBEAT sledders that caused this... for those that have alwasy joined a club or three, there is NO change!

but deadbeats BEWARE! they are on to you!

it actually made it easy for me, just pay the 100$ no messing with the browbeating of the clubs selling raffel tickets etc. its a WIN-WIN!

Wow, I didnt mean to add fuel to the fire or get in the middle of a "edit for bad language" match here, I was just curious to sledders, who like me, were on the fence of whether to find a club to join or just paid the $100, thats all. Im not saying that I would not join a club, I just dont have enough information to know which club "deserves" my membership, plus I havent riddin the hill enough or in great conditions to know who the outstanding clubs are. Just looking to see what the guys in my situation did, thanks.
ViperER,

We pay more taxes and fees in this state than most others and if the clubs need the extra money then they should lobby the state for some of that gas tax money we pay. Instead NYSSA is putting the burden on the register. They should have put a little more thought into this. I pay $50.00 for a 2 year car resgistration and would need to pay 65.00 for a 1 year sled registration. Something is wrong with this picture.

In the past, early 80's until late 90's, I had always joined the Penn Moutain club to help out with the trails. Membeship fee was $20.00 and $15.00 to register a sled. So why the hike? Did something change other than fuel costs? Still the same trails?

I see it all as another political scam. I am sure someone is pocketing a big pay check with all the extra money and I am sure the clubs are not on that list.

I hope you are not calling me a dead beat just becasue I do not believe in the new registration fee.

Yes I will stay on my property, but if anyone gives me a hard time becasue I am on the trail that is ON MY PROPERTY I will just shut that section of the trail down.

Just my 2 cents.

They can't add more of a gas tax because none of the money for snowmobiling in NY comes from the general taxpaying public. It is funded by SNOWMOBILERS. $35 of your $45 reg. fee goes to the trail fund. We fund our own sport. Funding also comes from NYSOPRHP, who give the funds to the clubs. Also, you should def. talk to the club who runs the trail over your land. I'm sure the woul be willing to step up and help you out with a free membership.

You should ride nearer home! We have Lots of Great Trails in central and souther NY! (If we have snow thjat is)
We always joined 2 clubs anyway so nothing has changed for us. We ride in NY and to pay a small fee to a club who maintains a trail and gives you a place to hang out and park your vehicles safely is worth every penny. All the money we spend in our lives on non essential things I feel it's a very small price to pay.
Support it or loose it....

Thousands and thousands on sleds, gas, cloths, trailers, gas, insurance and everyone wants to skimp out on a membership fee to a club?????ARE YOU KIDDING???????????????

25 bucks spent on a club membership, save 60 bucks on reg,net 35 in my pocket to be spent most likely at a local merchant counting on sledders to survive, sounds like a win all the way round....

Come on man, you're showing disdain and trying to prove with an out and out untrue statement like this????

You got a problem with a freebie cause the trail crosses your property fine, don't result to the rediculous..

You are a property owner and with that comes issues and it may be a real headache, for that there is no fault, just try and be reasonable...

I was a member last year of the Ilion snowdrifters so i just renewed my membership. Join a club and help our sport.

You are absolutely wrong in the above statement!!!! You can join a club for $25. That is for a family. This includes your wife AND children under 17!!! I am not positive about the # of sleds you can register under 1 "club voucher" but I know it is at least 2. I joined a club for $25 for a family membership, AND sent a check for $90 ($45 each sled,2 sleds) and all is well. So for $115 I joined a club, AND registered 2 sleds. I will only take the 1 sled to NY 1 time and the other sled maybe 4 times.
I guess I started a heated discussion. Sorry Doo52

Let me make some points and corrections then I will not say anything else on this subject.

Bammer

You need to prove me wrong on my statement of clubs not needing to get permission from landowners. I have owned my property for 4 years and have yet to be approached by the club. So what does that tell you? Here is a NYSAA landowner agreement statement. Why would they state the part in bold? Hmmmm!

To all clubs,

The NYSSA trails committee is distributing the following form to be used as a basis for obtaining written permission from landowners. It is not the intent of the committee to say written permission is required. Thru recent surveys the committee has determined that at least one third of our clubs are currently receiving written permission.

This form was developed in part with legal advice from Dave Linger, an attorney hired by NYSSA to research the idea of written permission. Dave presented his ideas on written permission at the Forum and recommends obtaining written permission.

Respectfully,
The Trails Committee

Yes I support the sport by opening my property up to people like YOU. So why shouldn't I get a voucher from the club at no charge? Got me, all clubs are run differently.

PSU Alum2

Yup, I made an assumption. I guess this voucher thing is not clear to all. NYSAA should spell it out a litte better since they are promoting it. Here is what I understand.

A person can register as many sleds as they want per voucher as long as the sleds are in there name. I suggest you photo copy the voucher since the DMV takes it from you. You can use then coppied version later in case you want to register another sled.

As for the fee. There are all kinds of combinations depending on the club you join. Check around with the different clubs. I have a list of all the club fees but it is too large to post and is a PDF, so I can not make it fit as an attachment.

Enjoy!

The way it was explained to me is if you join your local club the due's go to help maintain your trails. Also some of the $45 you give to the state comes back to your club in payment for maintaining that section of trail. Also my club dus are only $25 and I have two sleds, the price should stay the same and if it isn't then your club is taking money from you. If you dont join a club then the $100 per sled goes into a pot and divided between all the clubs in the state so your trail gets less of your money. And for living and riding in New York we will never win until New York City becomes part of New Jersey witch it should be. Thats just my two cents

We were already members so it didn't make much difference for us.... We support the club close to "home" where we stay while riding...
