X2 on getting it in standard and sport mode. You aren't going to hurt it. I have a 16 Enduro 900 ACE and found that the stock track and skis are just about useless off trail. You'll get used to being stuck if you venture off in any amount of powder.

Not many 900 NA haters that have actually owned one. Best all around motor made by BRP imo. Like to see them offer it in offtrail sportier package like the backcountry.
