Just bought a 1998 mach z 800 the exhaust was changed to a 99 brand new motor with a new track with studs the guy spent the money to do it right and the only thing is I can't keep a voltage regulator in it but though it was fast. I sold my 02 mxz 800 to my cousin and he beat me every time on the lake why have no clue though the mach z are bad ass. The suspension on the mach sits just as high as the mxz and I know it wasn't hooking up but now all summer I have to hear him so what should I do for next year? Besides add more studs and his track wasn't even studded

Check belt alignment if that's off it will kill top end. Have the clutches been cleaned? New springs? New bushings? This will also be a killer for top end, some thing is not rite with your MZ it should out run that mxz any day.
