Anyone know the pour point on the 2T semi-synthetic? My 2023 Skandic came with the semi, it is starting to get pretty cold up here and thinking I should change over to the full-synthetic, ETEC oil. Why don’t they just put the temp rating on the oil bottle? Skandic is just broke in… just need the pour points…Etec full synthetic? 2T semi synthetic…

Where I live in Interior Alaska, there are serious issues with oil that doesn’t flow. The fact that BRP won’t give you the pour point on their semi-synthetic is pure stupidity. I’ve seen the BRP full synthetic in a test with AMSOIL Intercepter full synthetic at -40F (you tube). The BRP, while not as thin as the AMSOIL, is pouring at that temp.

I’m doing a little impromptu experiment on my own…BRP full synthetic vs BRP semi-synthetic. At 0F/-18C no noticeable difference in flow. At -5F/-21C very noticeable difference in flow, the synthetic is still good…semi is not so good…maple syrup consistency. Should be colder in the morning. Using a very accurate Fluke meter/thermocouple for temps. Again this is just the two stroke BRP full synthetic vs semi-synthetic…A couple thousand feet down in the valley, it is -31F/ -35C - if need be.

The best I could find shows the viscosity at 40C. The strange thing is it looks like there are 2 versions of full synthetic. One for all etecs(no spec sheet) and one for snow. I remember a discussion about this before, but it was believed to be just a labeling change at the time. They both show here.

they have three synthetic versions, if you include the race version. I’m trying to figure out what the pour point difference is between the full synthetic (ETEC) & the semi-synthetic (blend snow). The 2023 Skandic I own, comes with the semi-synthetic in it, and is what is recommended for the 600efi. Problem is the BRP semi-synthetic (blend snow) is not going to work in the cold temps that I live in.

XPS wont give that information for some reason.
But clearly the XPS Full Syn oil has a warmer pour point than Amsoil Interceptor and looks very similar to Polaris VES and AC Ctech oil. As shown in the video below.

Personally, I run Mystik JT4, with a pour point of -54F.

Have you talked to any dealers in AK? They may not be able to give you the oil specs, but could relay their customer experiences using different oils in low temps.

So that’s why my Expedition 600 efi came with full synthetic. -39 today, just checked in my -22 C shop and all I have is full synthetic and conventional oils, no 2 stroke semi. Outboard 2stroke oil not moving much at -22, XPS full synthetic is slopping around fine. Probably below-40 tonight and I’ll check it then, it’s chilling on the porch. Good thread, nanook.
