Lightest full modular helmet

I know helmets are discussed a lot but I didn't find what I was looking for.

My siblings and I are looking to buy my father a new helmet, something lightweight. Does anyone know what the lightest full modular helmet with a heated shield is? He wears glasses and loves the modular hjc he wears now, but he's getting older (70) and his neck is starting to bother him, and the old hjc isn't the lightest.

If anyone knows any weights, post em up and we'll get to the bottom of this lol

The Skidoo Exome is the newest replacement for the mod 3. It still runs a mask similar to the BV2S and modular 3. As for 509, I had tried one of their modular style helmets about 2 years ago. I would never recommend it, as the air leaks were crazy. Maybe the newer ones are better, but not 100% certain.

You could look at something like the FXR maverick speed or castle x exo cx950, but not sure your going to see much weight savings there.

I have the Castle X cx950 and it is ok. I had to modify it some because the latch froze on me so I took the chin curtain out and put a balaclava on that forced your breath down out through the bottom. It filled in the hole where the chin curtain was good. But with glasses I’d still fog a bit more then I liked. Currently running a Mission the last 2 seasons and couldn’t be happier.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah they're expensive but if we gotta drop $700 on a helmet to keep my dad riding it's no big deal.

I guess my dad says he'll run his OLD wedge helmet cause it's pretty light. Those things suck so that's not gonna happen. But knowing he's ok with removing his glasses to put the helmet on/off I think we'll probably dig deeper into that ckx mission or the oxygen.

He's definitely not ok wearing a rubber mask or breath deflector on his face. I'll dig into it further.

Woke up to 6" of fresh wet heavy snow! I ain't driving to work in this so I'll have time today to figure this out

Oxygen might be your best bet based on the comment “He's definitely not ok wearing a rubber mask or breath deflector on his face”. The Mission does not have a mask, but it does have a divider that sits just below your eyes, it divides the top of the helmet from above the bridge of your nose, with the bottom of your face. Keeps the warm moist air flowing out the AMS system and away from the shield/ above your nose.

Oxygen is a great helmet, I love mine, but it does run hotter when it’s above 25f outside, as the heating element actually comes up into the inside of the helmet to heat the shield when it’s retracted. The field of view is great with the O2, only downfall it will fog if you have the shield closed and not plugged in. Not to mention they are on the upper end of the price scale. I don’t wear glasses, but rode that people do and seem to have luck with glasses not fogging in the O2.

I bought a mission to give it a shot this year, it is comfortable and seems not to fog when messing around in the shop/outside. The field of view is a bit less than the O2, but it will be a trade off for not needing to be connected to power all the time. But like I said above it does have a divider that rides on your nose.

My dad doesn't like the field of view in his 509, he's doesn't even like the way the sun shade comes down, says it only covers half the vision.

He's been looking for a new helmet, I have a modular 3 and haven't had an issue with it, the breath box can be a little annoying though and my glasses used to fog up at low speeds, but with contacts, I think this year I should be good.

The good thing for my old man is he only wears reading glasses, so he doesn't have a need yet for glasses while driving so any helmet with an electric visor will work for him, he just has to find something he likes

Bought the ckx contact for my dad. Man it's light! Comfy, big opening.... Really big. It's a really simple helmet and I like that.

Then I accidentally bought one for myself lol. My hjc needed a new heated shield, which is $100... So might as well just buy a new helmet for $220. I'll let y'all know how it performs

Had mine out for a few miles the other day. -6F, -25F windchill, shield did not fog. I was getting off and on the sled to clear brush and got warm, when I tried to use the sun shield it had condensation on it. Not sure if I would have had it down right away if it would have been ok or not? But the outer shield did not fog and the helmet is warm and quiet. Only a short test with a few miles but so far I am liking it.

Hey guys, I have about 400 miles on the contact helmet now and am really liking it. Visibility is great and so far I have not had any issue with the shield fogging in multiple conditions. The Sun visor does take some work managing the outer shield at times to keep it clear but I had that same issue with my Mission helmet as well. Really like not having the breathbox on my face and the helmet is light, warm, and quiet.
