I really should stay out of my local BRP dealership. Always expensive. Just went in for rubber grommets for the windshield. Just blew $600 on a new Garmin Tread. Now I need to learn how this thing works.

[/QUOTE. I am guessing that you will utilize the Garmin holder that it came with, installed on your glove box extension pad, and a fused lead to the battery side of the starter solenoid.looks like a nice waterproof unit

In the case of getting ready for this winter, rather than attach the cabling (all 6 or 8 feet of it) to a 12V plug, I also hardwired the power supply to the sled. Last winter I had problems using an added Marinco 12V socket on the dash w/ my previous GPS.

Once you get used to it you will be fine. I had a hard time at first, old school, But they are pretty good. The Tread seems a little more off road compared to my Zumo's. But like both. I have the 8-inch Tread also. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Just depends on your needs.

Is there an actual reason to use something like this over your smartphone sitting in the extended heated glove box add-on blue toothed to an inreach? There's so many good detailed map apps out there and my phone has as big of a screen.

Right now I am using my phone bluetoothed for skidoo, boat, atv. For skidooing i can't imagine that thing would live mounted at -50C to -60C here in the Arctic since it would not fit under the heated glovebox cover.

I always have my montana as a backup to the inreach just in the event it dies. Redundancy always.

Sometimes I like to escape from the phone.

I am wondering if you don't have the snowmobile maps already loaded on your tread model. I know I do on the 8 inch model now. But I also have a Micro SD card slipped in them also to make sure they are all covered. Check VVmapping. Just Google them. They are from Michigan.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and an older S20 Ultra that is not in use. I have On X Offroad installed on them and by the looks of it the Tread app also shows the Garmin maps on my S23. Looks like I have snow trails already on the Garmin Tread.

I ran 6 different eBay $60 Garmin automotive models the last 4 seasons. I had 3 Garmin 65lm models that frustrated me this season for over 2000 miles. They would shut off or die and I would switch them out until I had enough. I needed a reliable GPS as I explore new areas and often led my crew.

So I bought a tread 5.5 that has worked flawless for 1000 miles so far. I have GPS Trailmasters loaded into the Tread and it works very well. The preloaded software is good but does not show club trails often,
