Some weather facts off woodtv8's (Grand rapids Mich.) page.

January was the warmest ever across the continental U.S. It was a whopping 8.5 degrees warmer than average. That saved us some money on the heating bill. ALL 48-states were warmer than average.

Alaska was much colder than average. Fairbanks had their coldest January since 1971. Barrow hit -55 last Friday, missing the all-time record coldest temperature (set in 1924) by just one degree

Flagstaff, in northern Arizona usually gets more snow than Grand Rapids. Not this year! Their 30-year average snowfall (1971-2000) is 109.4″. This year they have had only 1.6″ Last year to this point they had received 95.1″ of snow! Since September 1st, they have had only 2.49″ of precipitation. That's less than 8% of the precipitation they had for the same period last year. Further south Phoenix, Arizona has now gone 108 days without a single drop of rain!

Exactely, MI is way too darn warm to keep snow on the ground. Northern WI still has the snow from December on the Ground.....I bet lower MI doesn't have that.
