What is the difference between the Ice Ripper XT 1.25 and the Ice Ripper XT 1.5?

And don't say .25

I wish I could ride a sled with one before spring ordering, I didn't like my 1.6 ice cobra because it felt like you were dragging the brake and just didn't have that rolling feel the 1 1/4 had not to mention it had kind of a drone sound to it, for these Reasons I'm hesitant on the New 1.5 Ripper

I noticed it wasn't on their site either. Is the 1.5 a brand new product for 2020? I am definitely getting the track upgrade just not exactly sure which one to get. The 1.25 on my 1200 was good and while the safe choice it would be nice to know exactly what the differences are between the two. My dealer has zero info on what the differences are other than more lugs and more studs.

I have been told the ICE Ripper XT 1.5" has the same number of studs as the 1.25" version of the ICE Ripper XT. One of the sleds on the spring show tour had one on, but I forgot to count the studs per bar. I suspect the reason it is not on Camso's website is that it may be a BRP exclusive track. Or maybe they just have not updated their website, yet. It is listed as an "accessory" in the 2020 Ski-Doo PAC catalog. There was some scuttlebutt on the forums about the 1.5" version was getting different gearing from the factory, but neither my dealer, nor any of the reps or BRP people at the spring show could confirm this for me. I did confirm that the sled at the spring tour that had the ICE Ripper XT 1.5" did have the "long" version of the tunnel protectors, so I hope they are built and arrive that way.

Not having ridden one, here is how I see it:

Advantages:

-More loose and deep snow traction

-better/harder acceleration (less spin)

-better braking

-better durability than the ICE Cobra 1.6", but likely the same as the ICE Ripper XT 1.25" version

Disadvantages:

-Slightly more weight (probably almost inconsequential)

-less MPG (how much remains to be seen - I am guessing 1-2 mpg based on conditions)

-less top speed (how much remains to be seen - 3-5 mph based on conditions and motor)

-possibly more noise (how much remains to be seen)

-increased slide shoe wear (possible in icy or hard pack conditions - how much remains to be seen)

-less cooling (possible in icy or hard pack conditions - how much remains to be seen)

That being said, I ordered mine WITH the 1.5" version. I am going to try it. If it is terrible (which I doubt), there are always new take off or deals on 1.25" tracks as all the "in season" models have them, but not so much on a first year track like the new 1.5" version. I am mainly an on trail rider with this sled, but the 1.25" version just does not seem to have enough loose / off trail traction.

I was hoping for a new track which combined the Ripsaw and Ripsaw 2. I see the ICE Ripper XT as an "ICE" version of the Ripsaw, but for whatever reason, BRP/Ski-Doo does not use the Ripsaw 2 or develop a better all around trail track. I would like to see a new version that is a compromise with some of the better traction of the Ripsaw 2, while retaining some of the "side bite" and hard pack traction of the Ripsaw in a 1.375" length, or maybe a hybrid 1.5/1.25" or 1.375/1.25" as on a Storm 150. While they're at it, throw in a little SilentDrive technology to make me really happy.

I had emailed Camso when I first heard of the 1.5 Ice Ripper and if it would be available to all but apparently they said its BRP this year. So I am not a doo owner but would like to purchase this track. Question is does anyone know of some dealers that are more aggressive on the pricing? I would like to purchase one for the fall. I checked the site for sponsors but not sure that I saw any.

Thanks in advance

Mike

I would consider selling the 1.5 Ice Ripper that comes in on my 2020 XRS 129.
If your planning on swapping out tracks what were you thinking of going with?

I wasn't planning to swap unless someone were interested in my IR. I'd probably look for a cheap take off 1.25" track... Works good enough for me.
Will a ice ripper 1.25 work? It has just over 600 miles on it. I took it off and put a Ripsaw II 1.5 after the first season.

How does the Ripsaw 2 compare to the Ice Ripper?

I ordered my 16 1200 with the 1.25 ice ripper track, used it for 1 season. Never had/used studs in any of the sleds that I ever had unless you count cleated tracks. So having a track with any kind of traction/stopping aid was something new. IMO it gave me some bite in icy corners and hills, braking or accelerating hard, I could feel a noticeable spin on ice. Upgraded to the ripsaw 1.5, it hooks up better than the IR and corners better depending on the conditions. As I get older, I'm thinking more safety than anything. I've toyed with studding the track, but worry about throwing a stud. One thing for sure the1.5 track throw more snow on the heat exchangers than the 1.25, but than again depends on snow conditions.
