I recently ran across a post where someone posted pages out of the service manual on how to index plugs....I just had a buddy say they fouled a plug 50 miles from the trailer and it was a nightmare finding the tools and changing them out. I would like to do it in the warmth of my garage next to my tool chest. Would someone be so kind to post the instructions on indexing the plugs? Also any help or recommendation on getting to them would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Just had to change mine out 2 weeks ago at 1300 miles. Plugs are over $18 apiece! Glove box, Gauge Cluster, Side Panels, Hood, and Clutch Cover all have to come off. It's a bitch trying to reach the plugs. I would suggest getting yourself a 5/8" deep well socket and a swivel ratchet wrench. It will make the job much easier. As it was, I think it took over an hour.

To index the plugs just take a sharpie and draw a vertical line (on the porcelain) that lines up with the open end of the spark plug. That line needs to face the injectors and be within 180 degrees of that. They just don't want the open end facing backwards (away form the injectors). The plugs should end up basically having that line face forward (to the front of the sled).

Trying to find out if I can get Ski-Doo to reimburse me for the plugs and my labor. I've heard they are supposed to be warrantied 3 yr / 6000 miles. Not sure if there is any truth to that though.

Initially there was a 3 year plug warranty. To my knowledge, that is not the case any more. I like to use the plug socket and a cut off ratcheting wrench. If you are fouling plugs, you may want to see if there is something wrong with the sled. I have only changed out my plugs at the seasons start on my 850, never fouled a set yet. peace.

Thank you for all the help, I spent at least 2 hours changing the plugs in my heated garage, I would say the job would be near impossible on the side of the trail. I can't believe Ski Doo would allow such a stupid design WTF are they thinking ! Something that takes 3 minutes on most sleds. Its a 2 stroke at some point its going to need plugs, and that could very well be on the side of the trail. Again, thank you for all your replies !

Changed plugs on only 1 of 8 ETEC sleds I’ve owned. That was at 3400 miles. Actually didn’t really need them. Just did it.

Once the hood is off, I didn’t think it was awful. Reach in from clutch side, pop plug wires off. Take 5/8” plug socket that has nut tooling on top. Using a stubby 3/4” ratchet combo wrench onto that, and take the PTO plug out. Then take the MAG plug out. Mark the new plugs to index, and then start with MAG plug again. Then put in PTO plug. All done from clutch side area while clutch cover is off.
