how do you adjust belt tension on an 04 mxz 600HO. I have about 3000 kms on one belt should it be replaced? Performance has dropped.

The first step to take is look at the belt height above the secondary, when they wear the tendencie is to settle in the sheaves. A good rule of thumb is 1/16-1/8" above the sheave the belt should sit. The 3 screw collar on the outside is rotated to decrease the distance between the sheaves, causing the belt to ride further out.
Performance has dropped is not descriptive enough to determine belt replacement.

bill cudney says, the most inportant thing is

to have the belt tight enough so when you have the track off the ground , it turns at idle 2 - 3 mph

Go with the 1/16" over the secondary. Loosen the 3 bolts on the side of the secondary, move the collar up a number, tighten the bolts, take for a spin and see where the belt is sitting. Adjust more if not high enough. If you have to put it up near 6, then chances are the belt has stretched and you need a new one. Also, check the sides of the belt for wear.
