I started riding on my parents 45hp Scorpions. We thought those things were rockets. Now people call 120hp etecs tiny engines.

 

I started riding with my dad on a 1968 Johnson skee horse... 16 horsepower opposed twin...

 

I started riding my dads ‘68 Skidoo. Custom built up seat on 2x4s with a years supply of plugs and belts banging around in it. Drive 10 miles and have to reweld that muffler from the shaking of that single cylinder. Sled bogging out only to realize your coat got sucked into the carb.Your smiling now, you know the sled.

Started on my dad’s 1968 Moto Ski MS-18. Same custom seat, same coat sucker carburetor.

I did not snowmobile much as a kid, but I remember riding on an Arctic Cat Cheetah(?) with my father. I think it had a seat cover made to look like a cheetah fur pattern.

 

The sled were low hp and low tech, but fun factor was just a high. All relative to the times.

 

One thing is for sure - miles per gallon was a rather low number, but smiles per gallon was a very high number...!

I think back in the day they were a lot of brands that never crossed the border. Might've been known of in 1 area, but unknown elsewhere in the snow belt.

Nice Pics. I started out on about the same sled but was about 12 years old then. Yep I am old. LOL Now have a 2022 ExpySE 600R with a 2023 600EFI Renegade for me and the grandkids and a 2024 Back Country X on order. Hopefully we have close to as much snow as this year for the next year.

 

In the 70’s on Dad’s 335.

Now enjoying an Expedition Sport as well as a handful of older machines.

 

Started at 11 years old on dad’s new 1969 Polaris Colt, 297cc JLO, 17.5 hp. Not strong enough to start it but loved driving it! Now on 22 Expedition SE 900

 

Our first ride was w/ friends in Mark S Burnham PP (a lot of Ontario sledders will have passed it on Hwy 7) just east of Peterborough. They had a pre' 69 'doo. Dad ordered a '70 335:

At the Ganny lookout in 1973:

My mother had a '71 Oly 300 & my father a '72 Oly 335. (no idea who's TNT is in the background). My brother & I rode the 300 most of the time. We couldn't pull over the 335, so it got nicknamed, 'The Pig'. As a result the 300 was 'The Piglet'.

Started at a friends cabin...WI I think. Early 1970s.

2023 in the Pillsbury State Forest, MN.

 

I’m the little guy in the front with dad and brother in back 70 Olympic 399 with hood to look like a black dot. And now 23 xrs 900r

 

My wife bought these (Elan & Olympique) when I was away on a course, they were our first sleds as a couple. Then it was a ZX Grand Touring 600 and a GSX 550f, we now have a MXZX and Renegade X 600R's.

 

This one is faster than the Tornado still has green
