My 2000 yamaha Venture 700 triple has 25 000 kms (15 500 miles) .

Motor was never rebuilt and still had 120 psi across all three cylinders. Though I recently changed the rings as a precaution.

15000 miles. 91 Indy 400. Engine never touched. Would still do 8000rpm when it was sold.

Here is my 2017 Skidoo Expedition 600ho etec before I blew the motor near the NWT/Nunavut boarder this spring. I left it out there, I'm going to head back this winter to pick it up.
it had roughly 12k on it when the motor went.
We were driving from Rankin Inlet, NU to Yellowknife, NWT to pick up a super kicker freestyle ramp.
6 days of constant blizzard left my partner and I stuck in a cabin.
I'm looking forward to doing this trip again.

A buddy of mine had 45k on his Renegade 900 ace before storing it for the summer.

Nice! What year was the 900 ACE your buddy has 45k on, and has he done any motor work?

I know someone who had over 20,000 miles on his Suzuki King Quad 750 and never a mechanical failure. Highest sled mileage was a friend with almost 12,000 on his Polaris sled.

The highest for a Polaris that I remember being posted on DooTalk a year or two ago was around 10,000 miles, but off-trail. This one was in Gaspé, QC.

A riding friend jerry had the sled and it had around 11,500 miles on it when a cyclinder went. He replaced it with a Doo 1200 four stroke.

Buddy of mine had a '85 Poo 400 with 16k miles on it. Motor was never apart but almost everything in the chassis was replaced at least once. He sold it running fine, a good beginners sled.

I keep looking at that Honda ATV speedo and I, I, have no words.

Would love to see some more pictures of that ATV. Congrats, that is amazing!

Regarding the original post, I've always understood that proper off-season storage is huge. Fogging the cylinders or starting it regularly, and storing inside or in a well sheltered area, plus good fuel care (stabilizer, store with premium, etc.) make a huge difference on the life expectancy of 2-stroke motors. How you care for the motor is more important than the actual miles.

Hoping some experienced mechanics chime in on this post.
I agree completely. So many people focus on the miles when in reality it’s age and proper care. A properly cared for sled with 10,000 mi on it is better than an ignored sled with 1500 mi on it that’s 15 yrs old.

Years ago about 1987 or so I ran across a pair of 1979 JD Trailfires that had 14,000 mi on each of them. Un touched just maintained. But think about it they were 12 yrs old. That’s equivalent of a 2009/2010 today which seems like a “new” sled. Back in the day 12 yrs old was ancient.

I had several cats back in the 80’s and 90’s that I put 10,000 miles on them… about $1,000,000 in fuel and sliders🙂… early 2000’s switched to ski-doo, had an 2002 MXZ500 and a 2002 Legend 500, put over 15,000km on each of them… all with no motor work
