I have a 1998 Skandic 380 with around 10,000 Km on it and a 1998 Formula 500 (liquid cooled) with 3800 Km on it. I was just wondering what the highest mileage anyone on here has seen on either of these machines, or engines similar to these? I'm wondering since I bought both of them used and would like to have some idea how much life they likely have left.

I had the same formula 500 LC. It turned over 13,000 km before I sold it. I don't know how much further it went!

I've always believed that the key to longevity is proper break-in.

X2 on Proper break in. also proper warm up every time. 5-10 minutes warm up.

I keep looking at that Honda ATV speedo and I, I, have no words.

Would love to see some more pictures of that ATV. Congrats, that is amazing!

Regarding the original post, I've always understood that proper off-season storage is huge. Fogging the cylinders or starting it regularly, and storing inside or in a well sheltered area, plus good fuel care (stabilizer, store with premium, etc.) make a huge difference on the life expectancy of 2-stroke motors. How you care for the motor is more important than the actual miles.

Hoping some experienced mechanics chime in on this post.

Well neither of those motors, but I have 28,184 Kms (17,513 miles) on my 04 600 SDI. I replaced the crank at 25,977 (16,141). It didn't fail, but the center seals were going bad.

I had a 2002 Grand Touring 500 LC that had 14,500KM on it, I personally put somewhere around 3-4K on it myself before I sold it. As far as I know, no engine work was done on it.

We have over 21,000 km of slow speed grooming/hauling on our 2004 Skandic SWT 550f. Original engine but had to replace the transmission at about 15k.

My buddy is a Cat dealer in Quebec and said he has a customer with one of those T660 Turbo Tourings with 70,000kms on it. Engine never been apart. Chassis has basically been rebuilt 2/3 times though.

This is my Honda Foreman .
I don't think I've ever driven this much in my life, everything totaled up lol. That's quite impressive.

I agree with everyone here on storage and operation. I always fog a 2-stroke engine at the end of the season as well as use fuel stabilizer. I also clean the carbs at the beginning of every winter.

I do have a 1990 Tundra with over 16000 Km on it, original cylinder and piston, bent the crank twice though. The speedometer was installed on it before the start of it's second winter, so there's maybe 500 not accounted for.

3000 miles is the EOL for too many sleds. It's always good to see them pass 10,000+

I had 16283 kms on my 2003 Mach Z when I sold it. Never been apart, and compression was 142 lbs to 150 lbs. when it was sold. Still miss that sled!

600s, 800s, 850s and 1000s have all reached 25,000 km without engine work.
