our 2002 explore with the i think its the 282 v8 does a pretty solid job pullin the sleds. i'm gonna guess prolly 14 mpg pullin the 3 sleds on our trailer. not sure tho, btw, poo sucks, where in ny doo u live??

03 chevy 5.3 hauling 2 people,gear,2 place clamshell with 2 MXZ's to Maine averaged 15 mpg.....65-75 mph most of the way, except secondary roads of course..No problems on hills, just mash the "GO" pedal...

our trailer is a 18 ft. floe 3 place trailer, all aluminum, not enclosed, it prolly weighs only like 500 lbs. my dad and i with the 3 sleds on it can push it up into our garage. in all it prolly only weighs 2000 lbs. wit the 3 sleds.

hemi and gas mileage in the same sentence..........wow............plus the hemi is real slow......

not bashing!.buy what you like........

Well mine has no problem beating a Chevy or a Ford in speed and gets decent mileage for a 4 door pickup, But then again I did not buy it for speed, just an added bonus.

if your worried about gas don`t buy a hemi!!!

If your going to pull with a gasser get a Tundra. The engine is 1 liter smaller yet the tundra is faster.

From Truck Trend magazine.

Truck Trends #s
05 DC Tundra with vvti 0-60 in .........7.6
05 4dr Titan 0-60 in........................... 7.6
05 QC Ram 5.7 hemi 0-60 .................7.7
05 4dr v8 5.3 Silverado 0-60 ...........8.5
05 Ford f150 5.4 v8 0-60...................9.1

Towing numbers fall along these lines also

If it makes you feel any better the Tundra also has a HEMI engine. (Plus dual overhead cams and 4 valves per cyl).

The only thing Dodge has over the Tundra is marketing.

Look at the HP and torque numbers, I doubt it's going to tow anything better. Maybe it is faster because it's smaller. Put a nice load on it. Then compare.

They did compare towing, Dodge and the Tundra were about even for 0 to 60 times towing a load. Those published power numbers you see only tell part of the strory, power to the wheels is makes things happen. Toyota's drive train is 10 to 15% more efficiant than Dodges.

BTW - the Toyota weighs 300 lbs less than the Dodge. (remember also the engine is 20% smaller)

Did I mention Dodge is the best at marketing 35 year old technoligy.

well we have never towed a trailer with my dads 2002 gmc 2500, but have had the sled in the back lots of times and you cant tell its back there. It has the 8.1 liter 502 in it, that truck hauls "edit for bad language".
