At the end of the season last year I was putting fuel stabilizer in and the plastic/paper seal that the manufactures put on between the cap and the bottle fell in my gas tank... Now, its obviously fuel resistant so I doubt its just dissolved... Anyone have any genius ideas on how to get this out without taking the gas tank off?

My thoughts were fill it full and hope it floats up?

Go fishing with a claw tool. If you have access to a borescope style camera that would make the job easier.

Look in there carefully with a match...

It sounds silly, but I would by another bottle and test to see if the piece floats in gas or not. No point in making it tougher on yourself with a full tank of gas if the thing does not float.

If it does not float, drain the tank and start fishing. Here is where the comments will come in...

With the absolute minimum amount of gas in the tank, and a long hose, I would use a shop vac if I could not reach it with anything else.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But even Mythbusters had to cheat to make anything happen.

Its actually pretty easy to pull the tank. I would do that just to be able to sleep at night. You must find it. That plastic will only show itself when you are 100 miles out. So have fun and get it. Lets us know how it goes.

What I was thinking it would do is suction to the filter and cause a fuel issue... I like the filling it full and if nothing I will siphon is out and flip it over. I also thought about using compressed air and blowing it around in there and hoping it flys out. I wont feel right knowing it just sitting in there when im deep in the bush and then stuck.

If you manage to get that thing out by filling the tank and floating it to the top, go out and buy a lottery ticket. Only way I can see it coming out is removing the tank and working through the fuel level sender hole. Personally, I wouldn't bother.

Remove the tank. Drain it. Take a garden hose and spray it out. Hopefully the water pressure will make it come out. Or fill with water and repeat. At least then your not spilling fuel all over the place. Just let it dry out for a while before you fill it with fuel again.
