Looking for a new helmet this season and 99% of my riding is on trail.

I have narrowed my search down to the Oxygen from BRP and the Mission from CKX and would appreciate every ones input.

Thanks!

99 precent trail = oxygen helmet. Easy choice. You can not beat the field of view it offers.

Don't know about the oxygen but last week had a mission helmet delivered. Good field of view and seems like a good product. There has been previous discussions about it in the forms where another poster added, and I will concur, that the fit is slightly larger than other makers. I'm usually a 3xl but from comments here I ordered a 2XL and the fit is good. Actually seems slightly roomier than previous 3xl's that I have.

If you could find a local distributor to check fit I would. Lucky for me I guessed and was right. Can't wait to try out the new lid!

I recently got the Oxygen helmet (see my initial comments here: https://www.dootalk.com/forums/topic/1591549-oxygen-helmet-purchase/#entry23537687

Since that post, I have used it a bit more.

Some more thoughts:

  • It IS a warm helmet. But, opening the front visor a bit helps to cool down and if opened just a little resulted in no fogging or other issues when riding at 15 below zero F.
  • If you ride in warmer temperatures, the built in balaclava and foam neck ring can be easily removed which results in a lot more room inside and more air flow inside the helmet and so it is not nearly as warm inside. Do be careful about wind and frost nip on any exposed neck area though and you might want to have some other article of clothing on or high collar zipped up for protection there if not using the built in balaclava.
  • The built in balaclava with foam neck ring and the heated visor makes for a very warm helmet when riding in real cold temperatures. At 15 below zero F with the balaclava on and the heat on high it was toasty warm! I had to lower the heat setting for the heated visor (via the BRP controller on the cable) or open the front visor some. In colder temperatures, like 20 to 40 below zero F, I imagine I would keep the heat setting on high much of the time and the visor closed when riding.

My question for you is with the shield cracked to get rid of some heat, is there enough wind coming in to dry out your eyes? This is my concern and what happens with my modular.

No, due to the design of the shield going down to the chin it doesn't draft like a mod helmet.

I just un click it and it's enough to get some fresh air.

I mostly wear contacts and a long day outdoors with wind or when riding will dry them out. I bring eye drops to help in that case. I haven't ridden with just glasses enough to say either way. Just blink more, right? :D

The O2 is a tight helmet to put on, but once on it's very comfortable and is very light weight. I do enjoy not needing hearing protection as it's built in. The hearing protection also reduces how loud you set your communication system.

The Linq connector and rear red light is a plus.

I'm always cold so having that build in heater at the top of my head suits me

Does the mission work with glasses?
It is designed to work with glasses but I cannot confirm how well personally. Just bought one for this season, can't wait to try it.

Myself and another guy in my crew have oxygens. I love mine but my other friend hates his. If you run hot do not get the oxygen. It is a very WARM helmet. Even with myself I run with the visor slightly cracked to get some cool air in. You will love the field of view it gives you. Sorry no experience with the other helmet.

Good Luck.
You shouldn't have to crack open the shield on a $600 helmet to make it work. I hated mine. Distorted view even after shield update. And no airflow.

Is that the stock visor? Very dark looking. I like it.
It came with a clear one but i bought the smoked one from a ckx dealer i use it off and on. I have the smoke sun shade also like my mod 1 had so i use the clear visor mostly with smoked sun shade instead of the yellow that came with it
