If at all possible “buck” rivets are best since the both pull tight and expand in the hole. However it requires at minimum a specific tip for an air chisel and a bucking bar ( chunk of metal) but the river gun vs. air chisel has a progressive trigger allowing you to start slow and accelerate. A 3/6” aluminum buck rivet will out perform a 1/4” steel pop rivet in most situations.
