You need a rectifier for the older sleds, even the ZX chassis. Bombardier doesn't sell a kit, but you can get one from Polaris and cut the wires. I picked one up on ebay, but haven't installed it yet. A new one is about $50 US, about $75 or $80 in Canada. In the GPS forum you may be able to find a diagram on how to make one with Radio Shack parts
So i can just connect a 12 v cig lighter on the sled like directly to the battery or another source? The plug that i bought from canadian tire says 12v plug and i will be plugging in my cell phone to operate the gps on it. I have a inlune fuse for it also. Does'nt the sled have 12v dc?

True about the rectifier if you don't have electric start on pre-03 sleds. If you have a battery just connect it to the terminals. Just remember to put a fuse on the + side near the battery.
i do have electric start and is there a spot up near the gauges or head lamp cause this will be installed on the hood, and i will have to open the hood once and awhile so i will have to run wires under the hood? Any other possibilitie for a 12v power source on my sled? 98 ski-doo formula deluxe 583
I have a wind shield bag on my sled and i have it in there easy to plug in and unplug
When I bought my sled I had the dealer install the Ski-Doo 12v Cigarette Lighter plug.
When I plug in my GPS 12v adapter the socket is flimsy enough that the power is ver intermitent.
Also, the way the adpater sticks up I worry about hitting it and breaking something.
Not sure if someother brand would be better.
all i want to know is if i can install one into my 98 ski-doo formula deluxe?

Of course You can install one. You will just need to wire it to the battery with a fuse on the + side, as previously stated. This is'nt rocket science.

Besides the battery can i hook it up to like the front light or gauges cause it wold be installed on the hood, and i need to lift the hood up.

No, I think your guage lights, headlight are AC not DC.

Just route the wire back to the battery along with all the other wires on the hood. That way you can open and close it as you wish. Just don't forget to put the fuse as close as possible to the battery on the positive side. If you some how get a pinched wire this will protect your sled from a fire...

I'm pretty sure the Rev chassis comes "rectified" and you don't need to run it from a battery. Ask on the Rev forum. Any ZX chassis without a battery will need a rectifier. I had assumed that everyone would know that you could wire direct to a 12V battery if you're looking for 12V power. My mistake. Just stick a fuse in the line.
True, the Rev chassis does supply DC already. I actually had a 03 ZX 600HO that had DC too. I think they switched with the newer style motors ni 03'
