i only sat on it the other day, felt likei was on a 4-wheeler,i didnt care for the look, riding position,tunnel/seat confomity to my body.....space age lookin' thing!
Havn't ridden it, but after sitting on one I'd really like to.
i rode it in the mountains in wyoming for about an hour. it takes a little bit to get us to the lack of power but once you due its a fun little sled to ride. i was jumping it a little and it lands like a dream probably due to how little it wieghs. i would buy one if it didn't say yamaha on it . ben

I rode one last winter at our Yamaha Dealer demo for the Yamaha dealers in NH.

It was one of their prototypes and they stated that the mappng of the motor was not final and it showed. It took some getting use to the 4 stroke motor and quickly ran out of top end. It did handled somewhat like a REV with the rider forward position. On the trails which were real bad the thing handled quite well.

I had the luxury of getting on my 2005 500ss trail right after my test ride. It ran cirlces around not only the Phaser but everything else we had a chance to ride. And I rode the entire line-up. The only thing even close was the Nytro.

I don't think that Andreas Nilsson would make the same statement. He was one of two swedish freestylers over to jump at Nelson's snow show and Haydays. Think he was the first one out on the track.. jumped .. and landed it on the new Phaser .. but broke both wrists and a femur... a jump that his rev would have handled easily.. He got to spend two weeks in hospitals in Grandrapids and went home with a few plates screws and a steel rod in his body, that he didn't come with..
I sat on one at the dealer saturday....didn't like the feel of it at all. I'm not saying that cause its a yammy, in fact, I've really been thinkin of jumping ship cause I'm sick of blowing engines in my doos at 1300 miles. But something about it didn't doo it for me. Seat wasn't comfortable. I can't explain it. but the Apex rtx was sweet looking and comfortable to sit on!
High tech saw horse. Wait till you see the price of an engine rebuild.
Aren't many that would ever keep a sled long enough to have to rebuild a Yammie 4 stroke.
I agree with you in regard to the 3 and 4 cylinder Yams, but the Phazer is based on the YZ 4 stroke motor and will need to be rebuilt before the others.

Yes,
My brothers Phazer FX arrived two weeks ago. I was out of town and I finally able to play with the FX yesterday.

His last two sled were RX1's(2003 and 2005).
My last sled was a 2003 Rev 800 and current is a 2005 800 gade.

I First took the carbides off and put on hard weld from BERGSTROM(Yes, I PLUG, PLUG, PLUG awesome products)

The sled takes ~20-30 seconds to start when cold. Hard to believe, but the RX1/Totally Yamaha site thinks it need a certain oil pressure before firing? Not sure....

Once it started, it runs at 2500-2800rpm on fast idle until warm. Took 2-3 minutes to come down to 1600 rpm.

The beast has quite a bit of torque. Very little throttle to get it moving down the driveway to the front yard.
I took it easy across the yard and it pulls very well. The magazines said torque off the line like a 700, mid of a 600 and top of a 500. Seems about right.
Not sure about top end, my yard is only, ~350 ft long....

We both noticed with 4" carbides or the hardweld, it will not steer around a corner. We have not played with the preload on the skis but have added this to the list of must do tweaks.

I was able to run back and forth 4 times, cooling the track and front tunnel cooler each time. The track clips were smoking!(Steaming) when I hit them with the hose.

Seems that I was able to hit ~50mph, just playing around, not squeezing more than ~1/2-3/4 throttle.

My brother asked why I didn't hold it wide open? "Lets wait for the studs, so I can stop! "
Last year with my gade(without studs) I held it on too long. The back yard froze over , and I slid at 40mph for 75 ft. I was able to to grab some traction last minute on some crusty snow, missing the trees and the stone wall!

So the little beast seems to to be a nice sled, but I'm not sure I would be happy one something that weighs the same as my 800 Gade. And with 20mph less top speed.....
Will I get one? If they upsize the motor to a 900(Dual YZ450F), I'll play.....

I rode a Phazer in Old Forge at the Dealer ride last Feb. Handling and suspension felt nice and it felt fairly light..... then again I got off an Apex and onto the Phazer..Anything would feel light. I was truly disappointed in the engine. ALOT of vibration!!! Not alot of snap off the line, and ran out of breathe very quick. A 550X would kill it in every department except MPG's. Just my 2C _ The Dude
They had grass demos of the Apex and Phazer at the local sled show. A friend, a yamaha fan, rode both. The Phazer was underpowered in his book. Looked it too. A friend of his had one on order, and was going to work on talking him out of it.

Ummmm until Andreas comes out and says, "The only reason I broke both wrists and my femur is because of the Phaser" I don't think we should be blaming the sled. For one, I've seen pros make stupid mad jumps time and time again, then break a leg taking ten feet of air. For two, when you are trying out a brand new sled you've never ridden for the very first time, you probably shouldn't be doing the same air you do on your own personal sled. But your statement seems to give the impression the new phaser is so dangerous, it should be pulled out of the dealers.........
