Probably ate something out of your beard.
He does bite the beard (and jugular 😳) but that’s not it. Wifey gave him some treats last night and we’re thinking they were too rich for his little belly so we’ll hold off on those for a bit. He’s eating and playing (and napping) like normal today so hopefully that’s cleared out of his system.

We had a very successful night of crate training and I actually got some sleep in between lawn visits for the pup. I had him on a 2 hour schedule, give or take. He only tried the crying trick a couple times after returning to the crate in the early morning hours and it was short lived. We let him cry it out and made just enough noise (cough or quiet talking) to let him know we were still nearby and he settled down quickly. Neither time was a full on tantrum like the first few nights so he’s learning that his crate is a safe place to sleep. No messes inside the crate either. He’s been a happy and energetic boy this morning. 👍

We’ve been putting him in his crate during the day when he’s having naps and put him in there just before he falls asleep so he knows he’s going in before sleeping. Our trips outside at night are short and not play time. Quick walk on the lawn to do his thing, then a chance for a sip of water, a quick cuddle in his blanket to warm him up (it’s been below freezing and frosty at night) and then back to bed.

Another good night. No howls until 6:00 AM when he was done with the whole sleeping thing. But he slept from about 10:30 onward last night with only 3 outings before the 6:00 walk.

He’s also teething pretty hard right now. Wifey gave him a kids’ frozen teething toy this morning to gnaw on and that helped a lot to pacify him.

Great pics Brutus. Remember to save them and print them some day! 👍
Thanks, and we will for sure. My wife and I are both into photography (she even has a family portraits side business) so there will be lots of photos taken. These are just iPhone photos so far. We plan to get the DSLRs out soon. Based on the size of his 9 month old sister he’ll be growing up quickly so we don’t want to miss out on these memories.

We had a great night of crate training last night. No protests. Other than a few pee breaks (roughly every 2-1/2 to 3 hours) he slept through until 7:00 AM.

My daughter and I started training him with the “sit” command yesterday and he was responding well. We used his kibble and pieces of apple as treats. He’ll only be 6 weeks old tomorrow so he’s doing pretty good. (I can hear her out in the living room working with him on that right now. 😁)

When I have him outside doing his business and he’s done I ask him if he’s done and he comes over and stands at my feet. I then say, “Tell me you’re done,” and he puts his front feet on my shoe and waits to be picked up to go inside (he can’t navigate the porch steps yet).

He's 6 weeks old and you've had him for a week they don't let puppies separated from their mother until they're 8 weeks old around here...
Yes, that’s ideally the norm but the mother was unfortunately rejecting them and being very rough with them. He was already weaned on puppy mush and we’re supplementing it with goats milk in the mush. He is doing well and his system has sorted itself out. The vet we know saw him in passing the other day and said he looks very healthy so that was reassuring. With my wife and I both working from home he gets lots of attention and supervision.
