Going bigger with rear idlers

I want to get some billet idlers for my rear axle ('05 Adrenaline-SCIII) and am considering going a little larger in size. Stock is just over 7" (180mm). I can get billets in 7.5" and 8.0" sizes. Just curious, what needs to be done to the slide rails to accomodate the larger size and what are the benefits/drawbacks from going larger. The main benefit I would be expecting is less of an angle for the track to turn back there which should increase efficiency which equals more power to the ground.

Let's hear all of the feedback on the plus' and minus'.

you will need to get an offset axle to accomadate the larger wheel diameter. And your thoughs about the track are the common reason why guys do the larger wheels. Billets are mostly for the bling factor(imo) so thats why i went with stock sizes to keep the cost down.. I have them and they look good.
The negatives that they won't tell you is that they reduce track footprint and suspension travel - not to mention that the suspension wasn't designed for them so as it goes thru it's travel the track tightens unless you use extrovert drivers and run the track loose. IMHO they are worthless on the shorter track sleds unless you lake race and need every last bit of friction reduction. A much better upgrade are the extrovert drivers - then your track can be adjusted so loose as to not make a difference what size rear wheels you use (especially if you port your track which makes it more flexible).

Good info. I am going more for the bling, but figured while I was at it would go for some performance improvement as well. Based on the initial feedback here, I am leaning towards sticking with the stock size.
What are opinions on the available billet wheels? Mountain Machine has some nice looking ones, but Wahl Racing offers them with a rubber outside ring. What is the benefit of the rubber? Won't this wear out over time whereas the all billet will last forever (hopefully)?

All my wheels are Mountain Machines with the Freedom axle and I love them. I went with the 8" 5 spoke without rubber and put on 2900 miles last year with no problem! Check out my avatar!!
