That sounds a bit like another step backwards for the G5 stuff - or is it? Am I missing something?

On the G4 extension it's just a slot the cord runs through, works great. Also no need to move any rubber nubs, the foam insulation holds the phone nicely.
while it is a huge PIA to get set up I must admit it is nice to not have all the extra cable in there catching on other items every time you want to remove them. I removed mine twice to get the phone and charging port aligned good where I felt it wasn't stressing the phone charging port. As a whole it will be easier to remove and put on your next gen 5.

I was wondering what stress it would put on the Phone's USB-C charging port as the cable is tight and bent in the right side middle of the holder. They also have a lower right area port on holder that a USB cable can come out of where you can plug into phone with a right-angled USB-C cable. That may be less stress on the phone USB-C charge port.

Can someone do me a favor and check the temp of the heated part with an ir gun. I'm only getting 58-60F. Was out riding and pulled over to check back of phone and it was not warm at all. Not sure mine is working.

So I tested my heated cellphone holder - Its 39 in my garage. For the holder there's a white piece of material in middle I think that insulates the phone from directly contacting the heating element behind it. I was was touching that white center piece to see if its warm. (Red X'ed piece below in picture) The element behind it is what gets hot. In regards to heating element comes on only when 0. That's a bad rumor. My garage is 39 and it got pretty warm within a few minutes of idling the motor.

Do you have an ir gun that you could check the temp for me?

Here is what several in our group are using and it works very well. Used a USB socket at the front of the glovebox and installed a wireless charging pad (double sided Gorilla tape) in place of the heating element provided with the cell phone holder. The charging process keeps the phone warm and 100% charged even at -30F Quebec riding. Easy in and out to take pictures.

Looks like my heater is working. IR gun indicates 120F or so. My issue is my phone brightness goes dim out on the trail after prolonged use. I've checked all my settings and it appears to be a phone heating issue whereby the phone will reduce brightness to protect itself. Pretty annoying as trying to view the map while riding is useless as you can't see much at all. Works good first thing in morning. Wish the Go app worked much better as I'd use that for nav

I borrowed the neighbors IR gun. Within a few mins (3-4) of idling and a few throttle hits (brake on) - I saw temps on right and left side of that center white thing at 150-160, the top and bottom was not as hot. After about 5-6 mins the temps started to come down to around 120-130. Im assuming it cycles the temps and maybe more often as engine RPM goes up. Temps outside were 50 by me - Waterford, WI.

Until the cell device manufacturers make a phone that works at least 75% of it’s performance below -15*c, the BRP gauge will be a good idea. Unfortunately those devices will be heat problems in normal indoor use.
If BRP makes it mandatory to be able to use a cell phone with the gauge, they should include one with the snowmobile. That way we don’t have to damaging our own personal phones.

I know I sound like a broken record, but why can't BRP allow screen mirroring of our phone screen to the BRP display? They are already doing it by mirroring the Go App map from the phone to the sled screen, so why not the rest of the phone apps? I assume it's a liability. Some idiot would be trying to watch youtube video while going down the trail, but it would solve a problem, at least for me. I am using Locus maps with GPS Trailmasters in Maine and it would be great if we could mirror the Locus map to the BRP screen. Wouldn't even need the cell phone holder as you could just put the phone in the glovebox bag. I think the issue with my phone getting dimmer when riding and not being able to see the phone map well is the phone is overheating from the cell phone heater pad. I am going to disconnect the power to the heater and see what happens. I really don't want to go back to a Garmin, but unless BRP Go allows all Maine trails to be displayed or I resolve phone issue, I'll go back to a Garmin.

The heated cellphone holder and USB charging keep my iPhone working in the cold. Haven’t had any issues.

Shouldn’t even be required to have use your own personal phone for gauge to function.

See above quote. And he’s not the only one. Some not being able to keep warm. WhyTF would one have to spend the premium price of the premium gauge and still be required to have a cell phone. And risk damage to your personal property that if something does happen to it, they will not cover it since it ain’t a brp product.

You're preaching to the choir. They should have at least put a GPS chip in the gauge, but even with that, not all Maine trails would be visible. BRP Go only displays Maine's ITS trails which make up probably half of the state's trail sys. The rest are all local trails. Not sure how BRP would ever be able to display them unless all the clubs submitted their maps and GPS coordinates, which isn't happening. In retrospect, wish I didn't get the fancy gauge.

I’m waiting for a gauge which works better than my iPhone. I haven’t had a problems with overheating and the charging is more then adequate.

For some reason, I kept on having issues with the trails showing up on the GPS-side of the 7.8 gauge today. I had no idea what was going on as I was getting frustrated with turning the phone on and off. Repairing the phone to the sled. Shutting the 7.8 gauge on and off to try and fix the trails not showing up on the display.

I had finally figured out that when I have my Kyocera Duraforce Pro 2 phone in the heated phone pouch, even with the zipper completely unzipped, the phone gets too hot when temps are just above freezing like they were for some time this afternoon. When it is warm out, I will no longer put the phone in the pouch and instead, I will lay the phone in a microfiber cloth "nest" inside the console and under the heated bag. Between the engine heat rising to the console box and the heated cellphone bag, it makes my phone run hot and stops the BRP GO! app from displaying the trails on the GPS.

What is the maximum phone size you can fit in this extension? I currently have a Galaxy S10+ which is the supposed 6.4" limit but it looks like a bigger phone can fit. Just curious as I am planning on upgrading my phone in the coming days.

Check the specs, but I think it's 6.5" x 3.5" actual phone dimensions, not screen size

Looking for help- I bought the BRP cell phone heater / holder (used) . After installing the wiring harness I’ve confirmed power is getting to the cell phone heater’s harness connection, but the heating element doesn’t warm up when the sled is running . Is there a fuse in the cell phone heater that might be blown? * I performed a continuity test on the cell phone heater and found the circuit to be “open”. After reading the BRP installation instructions it doesn’t appear as if I can buy the cell phone heater element or the cell phone door assembly (which includes the heating element ).
Any help would be appreciated.

Think you bought someone else’s damaged goods and paid mostly for his new one. Don’t see it being a fixable part similar to device screens would be fixed.
