Gearing Question...

I was on the phone with a guy from dyno port the other day (ordering a ceramic pipe) Any way, we got to talking about gearing because I asked if they sold gears too. He told me that there is no performance gain from changing the gears because of the variable clutch. I *think* my stock gearing was 23 43. I lowered the top to 21 and was planning on raising the bottom to 44. I cant honestly say if there was any gains low end going to the 21 beacuse I did that the same time I installed a clutch kit from Dynamo Joe. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? He basically told me that gearing performance is a myth and to stay stock!

After changing gearing on more than a few Doo 800's it does make a difference in acceleration, some sleds more than others. Top end ususally remains the same if you drop one to two teeth.

I assume with the gears you're running that you have a Renegade, sorry can't help you there I only have experience with 121" sleds.

Why the Dynoport Pipe? There are better options for the Doo 800.

I went with the dyno port because I had the can already. I guess i ddint research it like i should have before I bought it.

I thought that the acceleration had improved too. Like I said, i did the clutch at the same time so I cant be sure. I dont care about top speed. I very rarley get on a lake and I dont need to be going 100 anyway. I really enjoy the corner to corner domintation

My opinion, when someone does not want to take the time to "constructively critisize" a conversation - Stop the conversation and move on to someone who is willing to share information with you.

Scary to think a company who can get their drag sleds to hit 150+ mph on asphalt doesn't understand what gears doo! I'm guessing its a deal where he didn't want to "waste" his time explaining things to a customer. When you have a common name like dynoport, things kinda sell themselves and you can be rude?!? *%@

Dont get me wrong. He wasnt being rude but his only response was the *variable clutch* when i asked why. No big deal but I just wanted to see others opion. all of the reading i've done here leads me to 21 44 which i am going to do. i just wanted to make sure. thanks guys
Check with some people on dootalk and snowest who have the same sled and track length as you and see if they ride the same conditions as you....then you can see if that gearing would be right for you..........DJ's clutch kit is a "well worth the money upgrade".
