Extended warranty. Yes or no?

Dealer offered a 2 year extended warranty for my renegade x 900 R for $1000. That would put me at a 4 year warranty. Everyone’s thoughts? Should I do it? Unless doo comes out with a new chassis with power steering or something I absolutely have to have, I plan on keeping this sled for at least the 4 years.

you need to know if it covers the SS or track

$1000 seems like a good deal to me. Depending on your expected mileage I guess.

Reminds me to ask about pricing when I pick mine up.

I have my Poo XCR at the dealer right now getting some stuff done. 2 weeks of a 4 year warranty left. $1000 for an extended warranty (if it hadn't come with
4 yrs) I would be ahead of the game based on work that has been done the last two years -- new gauge, exhaust valves, bearing failures, etc.

Does not surprise me as my buddy has had issues with his 2020 Assault and its been in for a new engine, starter, and something else. He has been trying to sell it for a year and he can't get rid of it. He wants 12,000.

Smart shock system is covered under the first year only. Best Extended coverage does not cover SS system.

Pm me if you want to read through the dealers side of the contract. Pretty much the best warranty doesn't cover anything besides catastrophic failures. Tracks, shocks, sdcu modules, and wear parts aren't covered.

Looks like those who snowchecked have 2 years to decide if they want to add additional coverage. Details below:

----
When can I buy a B.E.S.T. Protection Plan?
You can purchase or extend your B.E.S.T. protection at any time if your BRP vehicle is still under the manufacturer’s limited warranty or a current B.E.S.T. contract.
----
B.E.S.T. Warranty coverage:
- Pulley
• Starter
• Shot system
• Suspension arms
• Suspension rails
• Engine repairs
• Engine Electronic Module
• Voltage regulator
• Magneto
• Ignition coils
• Heated grips
• Chain case / Transmission

Or put that $1000 in an account today, then get a trade price in 2 years.

Let's say it'll be $4000 to trade in 2 years. Pull that $1000 out and nows it's $3000. For $3000 you'll be starting with the latest and greatest, brand new zero mile sled with a fresh new warranty.

2 years later if you decide to trade again you'll be trading in a 2 year old machine instead of a worn out 4 year old machine.

Chances are the long game favors keeping the sled newer instead of the warranty going.

As always, every situation is different, do what works best for you.

Or

Can you get $1000 or more on trade for a 2 year old sled that still has 2 years warranty?

Then it's a wash.

We just had a big discussion on this but for a truck. You are just buying insurance, and buying peace of mind that you won’t be putting out several thousand on an engine etc. True that you will also make your sled more desirable if you plan to sell it while still under warranty as well.

$1000 doesn’t seem like a lot of money these days for that. To each his own but I would be tempted to get it. Bullwhipman is right, it is just a gamble. You will only know at the end of the warranty if it was worth it for you. You are paying the $1000 to know that you won’t be putting out 4 or 5 thousand. I had a buddy bought a 600 ACE, motor went, total fluke for one of the most reliable motors, it can happen. BRP covered parts.

I’ll say this, I just had a factory warranty replacement motor put in my work truck, a 2020 F350 covid special, after a failed oil pump (6.2L gas engine) led to the oil looking full of glitter…16k is what the engine would have cost out of pocket. Gone are the days of the 1200 dollar long block unfortunately.

No one is going to convince me that an extended warranty (that can be had at a good price) on a SNOWMOBILE is a bad investment. Especially if you put a lot of miles on.

I had a full engine replacement under warranty on my reliable 4s SR Viper and my Poo has been back to the dealer multiple multiple times in year 3 and 4 of its extended snowcheck warranty.

Warranty offers are often used to entice customers to a particular brand but now that we are down to 2 years it's likely not going to be enough for me.

The bold part above makes the "put the $1000 towards a trade instead" make even more sense to me.

I'd rather have a newer sled that doesn't need a warranty vs an older one that does.

A warranty doesn't mean squat when you're broke down trailside or your sled is sitting at the dealer waiting to get fixed.

But again, everyone is different, every situation is different, do what works best for you.

Not much to do with warranty but dealers don't even want your sled right now, they have a ton of leftover 23's to sell, 24's to sell and I think spring orders for 25 are gonna be the worst in many years. I got some pretty sad quote's on my '22 xcr and it did have 2.5 years of warranty left.

I'll say same on this one - do what works best for you.

That said, I don't finance toys either - not everyone is in the same position.
I agree, lots if different scenarios.

To say anyone who finances a sled is an idiot is a pretty broad statement. I can see where it could make sense if you don’t owe a lot of money elsewhere and want to get out on the snow this season. Wait till you can buy outright and sit out a season or 2 or maybe it never happens due to life changes? Its not like snowmobiling is a good investment no matter how you do it.

To purchase an extended warranty is to assume two things will happen. 1) something is going to break that costs more to fix than the cost of warranty itself. 2) the warranty company will actually honor it. Mis-use, wear and tear, normal maintenance items, are all reasons the warranty company won't warranty a darn thing! Trust me!

I would rather pay 7% over 3 years than sell 50k of an investment that sunk to 20k and is slowly recovering.

Buy low, sell high.
