A picture might help. You're looking at it but the rest of us have nothing to go by to help. I recall an electrical connection where the center comes out to reveal the prongs holding the rest of it together. I recall this was on the mag side but that's where a picture of what you're looking at could jog ones memory.
I'm assuming you are working on an 800r? Are you talking about the connector that goes into the voltage regulator(magneto connector)? It has three yellow wires from the stator going into it and they need to be removed to take the engine out.
Blue part pulls out, just use some needle nose pliers. Then you need to use a small screwdriver or pick to lift up on the little grey tabs while you pull slightly on the wire. Take out the three yellow wires for the stator. They can go in any position when you put it back together.
