We were out riding yesterday, when the electric start on our 2015 Renny X started acting up. Some times it started no problem, sometimes, you heard a hum but it did not start and we had to rope start her. Don't know if it's a fuse, connection, solenoid, battery. Don't know what to check, this is a first for us. We need to fix this ASAP as we are off work and ridning this week.
All advice welcome!
Thanks
Sounds like bendix is sticking and wont extend to engage the starter gear on primary. Try cleaning it up and maybe lube with a dry lube. Ive got the same issue with an 06 gtx. At least the starter is working. My 07 gade needed a new set of brushes. Removing a starter for repair is easier said than done. I ride rest of season just pull starting it when needed and fix it proper in the offseason
Same thing just happened to mine. Put the button, hear it spin, but the bendix doesn't spin out to engage the flywheel. Take the belt cover off, try it out, and have a look. Cleaned it up with a bit of brake clean, and then graphite (dry) grease
Exactly, don't want to take it to the dealer and lose my sled for a couple days.
Can someone tell me what the bendix is and describe what I should be looking for, and what to clean up if it looks improper?
I can go and take some pictures of the clutch assembly and belt and post them. if that will help. I'm really hoping it's just something that we can clean up easily ourselves.
The seld has about 4200Kms on her this year and about 5500Kms last year.
Buy a small can of lock de-icer and spray it into around the gear on the starter.
This should help you some while your out riding, until your first service appointment can address your issue.
If it happens again open up both plastic covers and listen to determine what side of sled you hear the noise from. A stuck solenoid makes noise also from above battery area.
