Hey everyone,

Im in the market for a new snowmobile and I thought hey, why not think about something new and modern? Nothing is as new as it gets with the electric ski-doo (expedition or grand touring) it seems.

Has anyone ridden them before? Are they popular? Does anyone actually buy these things??? Every snowmobile I see on this forum are your typical gas powered ones, but thought Id get some perspectives on something different.

I think its a really cool idea since you can hear everything around you and hopefully have less maintenance issues without engines and fluids. The idea makes sense to me but Im not sure if its a good purchase.

EDIT: thanks comments for telling me they arent sold to the general public!

Removed my initial reply, I was figuring you were just trolling or doing research. If it just some kind of research paper, not sure how I feel about that - but you could just say if that is the case. People will still participate.

Lets say you are serious, I would suggest renting a couple of times this season and see how you like it. No matter what you buy, snowmobiling is an expensive passtime with a lot of costs associated on top of the initial purchase. Its December, you seem to be far from making a decision, renting is my advice, then you can plan for next season. Electric is not there yet and may never be, I think a 600 EFI or 600 ACE is a good start after you pick the platform that suits your needs.

Not available for one thing. Even if they were they have under ideal conditions and during which speeds not exceeding 15.5mph a maximum range of 31 miles. Depending how it's ridden the range can be significantly less than that by ski doos own admittance. You need to stick to looking at gas. My best advice is to buy a machine now and enjoy it this winter while taking advantage of the current favorable market conditions some nice deals out there. Decide what your going to do. Trail riding only or some off trail riding too or mountain riding, and for powertrain if you want a 4 stroke or 2 stroke and shop around for a specific sled. My advice if your new to the sport and don't need the most powerful engine or the best possible shocks and your trail riding grab a discounted 2023 or 2024 mxz 600r adrenaline or blizzard. Best of luck

I don’t know about North America, but around here the electric snowmobiles are sold exclusively to rental companies at ski resorts.

The typical user is a rich japanese tourist that can’t tell a snowmobile and a snow blower apart, that had enough of skiing and taking photos of reindeers, still looking for a winter adventure, pays silly $$$ to go on a guided snowmobile tour and then lines up in a queue with twenty more japanese tourists to cruise a flat trail at an astonishing 3 mph…

The current electric snowmobiles is not an option for 99.9% of this forum, since the range is extremely poor and the performance is - if possible - even worse.

Considering that you seem to be quite lost between discounts on traditional snowmobiles and now electric snowmobiles, please listen to Pete’s advice. Renting various snowmobiles couple times over to figure out what you are looking for is not a bad idea.
