A few of you have expressed interest in my logging sleigh that Takman posted in the Winter 2019-2020 pictures topic. The logging sleigh was an idea I came up with that just had to be built. Don't ask me why I needed a logging sleigh. I have no real use for wood but the basic idea popped into my head and I had to build it. Considering the sleigh came from a crazy brain fart, it turned out pretty well and with a little trial and error, we have figured out how to use it to haul some pretty sizable loads.
This picture gives an overview of the sleigh without a load on it. It was taken last winter before I realized cranking the manual winch was no fun and upgraded to an electric winch. The hitch is a 2" ball coupler. The skis are Bob House skis from eBay (see link below). The crane is from Harbor Freight but I replaced the hand winch with a small electric winch. The sleigh frame is 2"x2"x1/8" square tube and the tongue brace is 2" C channel. The log deck is only 6' long but I left the back ends of the side rails open so I could socket in an extension if it was needed, it is not. The 1.5" stakes are pinned into pockets and easily removable so we don't have to hoist over them if we don't want too (but they work well as a pivot point when loading heavy logs so we rarely pull them). The skis attach to angle iron welded to the bottom of the frame. The angles have four sets of holes in them to allow the ski position to be adjusted fore and aft. We have found the rearmost position works well for 10'-14' logs.
I will post some more pictures of the sleigh under construction in another posting due to size limitations.
