Did your insurance go up with a claim ?

My 2015 Renegade went off trail and hit a tree, leaving the left ski pushed back about 2". I looked everywhere and could not find anything wrong with the S-Module but the lower A-Arm appeared to be bent. After replacing the lower A-Arm the left ski is still back about 1" so I am assuming the S-module is bent. I could ride the sled as is but it would cost another $300 in parts to replace the damaged plastics.

If I go ahead and claim the accident on insurance ($200 Deductible) what are the chances I will get canceled or see a significant increase in my premium ?

I have been with my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) over 20 years and haven't had many claims over the years.

I can't speak for LM but its not uncommon for your insurance policies to have a no-claim discount that you might lose at your next renewal.

That claim history will likely follow you to your next insurance carrier if you shop because you are pissed that you lost that discount.

I don't know what that discount is going to be, but it might be best to eat that extra $100 this time.

If you call your agent they will be able to tell you. They aren't going to raise your rates just because you called and asked - only if you actually file a claim.

Seems like a waste of a claim IMO, if you can afford the repair. Two of my friends got totally dropped by their insurance companies for filing 2 claims within x number of years (one guy house, one guy motorcycle).

All my deductibles are high because I will only use it for catastrophies. Eg: sled gets stolen.

I got dropped for my claim last year. The reason was an at fault accident (my sled) and I had 2-speeding tickets on my driving record. One comes off my record later this year so I hope my insurance company takes me back. I could only get liability from another company because comprehensive was just too much. $1000 for just liability, cash, upfront. It would have been an extra $1200 for comprehensive. That was for both my sleds, I paid a total of $350 for both my sleds fully covered last year.

If it's only a couple of grand damage.....I would just suck it up and pay for it myself. Not worth the hassle and risk of losing insurance. I'm not sure what it's like in Michigan but here in Ontario an accident claim stays on your record for...I can't remember, it's either 6 or 10 years.

Good luck.

I had a $5200 sled claim and my insurance company dropped my auto/sled policy after being with them for 14 years. No tickets, one previous $1500 auto claim due to a hit and run on my wifes car in a parking lot. I ended up getting stand alone sled insurance from another company for about $30 less and then saved nearly $1000 on a separate auto policy, and about another $200 by switching my homeowners and getting more coverage too. My sled incident actually saved me money

The underwriter told my agent that since my sled claim wasn't an incident with a police report, my driving record does not reflect an incident and the new company is not made aware of my previous insurance claim status with another company.

No way would I put in a claim for that. I made a clam with Liberty Mutual on a sled a few years ago for couple thousand in damage. Liberty Mutual was great to deal with but my rates went up. When I asked about it they said it would "fall off" their records in 3 years. Kept getting magical increases on my other stuff with them and eventually had to go with someone else. Good luck.

I'm also running State Farm now. They were about half what Progressive quoted (not that I wanted Progressive anyways).

While I didn't see a jump the one time I made a sled claim years back, I was very leery of doing so when I found a rock on my first sledding trip. Thankfully, it turned out I didn't need to make a claim. All I got was a couple of busted tabs, a small fold in some plastic that isn't visible, and a bent optional piece that costs $200 (currently running without).

I was worried about getting dropped or have a massive insurance spike. I have to carry insurance because I have a loan out on it. I'm hoping if I ever need to file a claim, it will pay off the loan.
