Dess key replacement

Would anyone happen to know the easiest way to have a Dess key replaced on a 2000, 500cc, GT? It is progressively getting looser and needs to be wiggled each time the sled is started and we are worried it will eventually fail completely.

Can I take my old/loose key to a dealer and have a new one programmed from it? Or does the entire sled have to go for programming a replacement key (very inconvenient given where the sled is located)

Lastly, is there a way to bypass it completely/

Thanks in advance

The whole sled needs to go to the dealer, they need to run the sled with the new tether to program it to your sleds MPEM.
Unless you know your dealer well and he has a sled there that he could put your MPEM in and program it that way? You would still need your vin and owner ship with you.

The molded rib on the inside of the cap is probably worn down from use. No way to bypass it.

This is what I did:

remove the dess post from the console and hang the thing somewhere underneath it

clean up the inside of your dess key with a q-tip and some alcohol and put it back on and use a zip tie to hold it tight on to the post

then wire in an old school tether to the 2 kill switch wires

just sayin

This maybe your only option, aside from buying a used key and MPEM. I bought my 05 off a buddy, it had dess key issues, to the point we had tow it one day as we couldn't get it to read the key. He took it to the dealer who had a new key but couldn't program it. Turns out the Buds software has been updated and it no longer communicates with the older mpem's. I have read this here a few times since.

After I purchased the sled from him, I found a used key and matching MPEM. Works great now.

Thanks, I have a few spare Dess keys from past sleds.

It can't be that the dealers are not able to work with a 2000 year MPEM to activate a key....it is it??? That's sounds crazy to me.

Has no one ever figured out how to hard wire/bypass it?
Just call ahead before dragging the sled to the dealer.
