Dealer price/time - installing extroverts

I decided to take my extroverts/drive shaft to the dealer after I was quoted "about 20 bucks" for them to press them on. I would've done it myself...seems easy enough...but for $20 I figured what the heck, let them do it. So a week later I get the call saying the shaft is ready. When I go to pick it up, they tell me it took their mechanic over 2 hours to do it!
But, they are "only" going to charge me for an hour and a quarter @ $74/hour...$92 vs the $20'ish I was estimated. Not only that, but the drivers were oriented incorrectly on the shaft (one driver had the notches facing in, one had the notches facing out). So it had to stay @ the dealer for another week. I will hopefully be picking it up on Friday.

I understand that BRP has set amounts of time for certain common jobs, ie. changing rings and doing certain things under warranty. I'm wondering if they would have a set time for installing new drivers? Am I wrong to think that an hour and a quarter (never mind two hours) is too much time for a trained Doo mechanic to take?

WAY too much time! I'd look for another dealer. Going rate for that is one hour (even tho it takes less but they charge a minimum of an hour no matter what) at $60.

Have FUN!

That's BS, if they said "about $20" then I wouldn't pay more then half over the "estimate"($30). They can't throw you a low ball estimate and then way over charge you because their mechanic doesn't know how to do it properly. Now what are they going to do when you come back a second time - charge you $184?

You better make sure they don't reuse those same drivers, I would have said "no thanks, give me my drive shaft and a set of new drivers and I'll do it myself" You shouldn't have to pay for their screw-up (incorrect install).

If you take your car to the dealer - they have set times and prices for repairs, if the mechanic takes twice as long you don't pay twice as much, you only pay the set price. The mechanic eats the overage for being a TOOL.

I would talk to the manager and make your case - that's just bad business. If you don't get any satisfaction - let us know who they are, so we can all send them an e-mail and let them know they aren't going to get away with that kind of BS. That way they won't get away with treating anyone else that way.

Excellant! You covered it all.
No question get new drivers, to do the job RIGHT! Yours have now been stretched over the shaft once. If the shop can't even set-up a driveshaft correctly...This is simple stuff! I would be definately looking for another shop.

We charge $75.00CAD to press off old drivers and press on new, it takes about an hour to setup remove and replace, I can also tell you that if you press them off to reindex them, they should be repalced with new ones or the shaft should be cut to allow the installation of snap rings that will stop the movement of the drivers. -- Bill
My dealer told me $35 to press off/on drivers. that's the up side, down side is I ordered extroverts in mud July and they aren't here yet. If it takes theis long to get parts now, it's really going to suck come mid season.
Just talked to the parts guy, he says they were planning to put the driver on the shaft (correctly oriented) and note how easy it goes on to decide if it's re-usable. He says they have a new driver on hand in case it's too sloppy...I hope they are good judges of whether it fits tightly or not. I guess I'll have to put up a little fight over the price when I go to pick it up. There's no way I'm paying for a new driver. Thanks for the input guys.
