Cracked Cab what to use?

543 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  snow-is-king
I have a friend that has a 02 MXZX 800 and he cracked his cab. The crack is tight so it is just a matter of getting the right glue. I was just wondering if anyone glue there cab and what did you use, and did it last?

the cab on my safari had a crack about 8 inches long on it so i used gorilla glue to hold it together , it's lasted 2 winters so far and looks nicer that the rivets below it !

I'm betting the ole safari hood is made out of different material then the 02's. We have tried to repair some minor cracks on newer hoods and have had no luck without going the long route.

I use 3M automix Rigid parts repair. V-groove it out from the back side, ghost it with a torch to get rid of the oils, then lay on the glue, a layer of glass cloth, and more glue.

As for using a torch on a skidoo hood, I would not do it to my hood. It is not necessary, just a good cleaning with hot soapy water, and a good plastic cleaner either petroleum or citrus based will suffice. You will not have a failure if done properly using this method.

On hoods that are black plastic (tpo based) all the way through (newer ski-doo is yellow or urethane based) heating the plastic up to bring mold release agents to the surface and cleaning while HOT will be a benifit. However I prefer a heat lamp or heat gun so that I can control the heat better. If it is let to cool before recleaning, you just waisted your time.
