Need help on tuning clutch on trail ported 2001 MXZX 800. Previous owner had some changes made from stock, but he was lake running and I'm more interested in strong corner to corner trail riding. The trail porting was done after I bought it, so his clutching wouldn't work anyway. Have 293X ramps, aprox. 17 lbs of pretension on secondary, stock 53-47 helix. Was running PI/VI 230/320 spring, engaging around 4500 rpm. Tried GN/VI 200/320 spring from my 2000 MXZ 700, engagement didn't drop. Not sure on the pin weight, but it's not stock. Any suggestions on lowering my engagement, or any suggestions on improving on the above setup

I was looking at the spring chart and they make a 160-320(#414817900)That may help you on the engagement.I think the stock primary spring for the 01 had a 160 start rate,so this should put you at around 3800rpm engagement. If that doesn't work, maybe something is worn in your primary.

Ok, I see that here in my spec. book. That spring has a spring rate of 123.2 lbf/in as opposed to the PI/VI 230/320 which has a spring rate of 69.4 lbf/in. Am I affecting anthing other than the engagement?

No,it should only affect engagement. The 320 finish rate is the same as the previous spring's you were trying.

No you aren't and if your looking for a more agressive trail set-up corner to corner why are you worried about engagement. leave the pink/purple in it and get some 298 ramps which were found in the 2000 mxz 700, great trail ramp, has a deep belly for good midrange pull.

Good, I'll try the ramps from my 00 700, don't even have to buy 'em. I'd like to get the engagement down because I also do off trail running with buddies on 136" track machines, and engaging at 4500 just spins too much. Any recommendations on a better helix than the 53/47? Thanks
