thinking about getting your spacer kit.just wondering how it works exactly and install.how you had any problems with the kit.
I ran the floating secondary spacer on one day per weekend all last season.
I ran a saturday with, then sunday without, then saturday without and sunday with.
I am an alignment fanatic and always check my clutches. From monitoring material build up on the inside of the clutch guard cover, I tend to think that the little bit of floating actually reveal slight less belt dust build up when under heavy w.o.t. loads - and I beat the living "edit for bad language" outta my sled....I lay on the throttle on hills/deep snow, saying to myself "come on I dare you to blow up!" For a flatlander, I can still make my engine and clutches groan with pain.
I am running it on my 800 and have not blown a belt because of it.

Rev extreme.....Here is my story....

The spacer is a piece of round aluminum that takes up the space between the outer washer and splined shaft. Because the spacer is longer than the 'space', the bolt and washer locks the spacer to the splined shaft and allows the secondary to 'float'. Before installing the spacer you must remove your secondary and also remove 1 or 2 shims (washers) between the secondary and the bearing. With the secondary re-installed and the bolt and stock outer washer tightened you should have a total side to side movement of 1/4" of the secondary.

Now what happens is the secondary clutch will self align with the primary (which moves because of the torque) and belt wear and heat will be reduced. Its the wear on the one side of the belt that ultimatly destroys a perfectly good belt. This will happen most noticably at wide open throttle when pulling a hill. This is when I blew my first and only belt at 300 miles from new on my 800 renegade. I even took it back to the dealer to align which was a lost cause. Fortunately, they warranteed that first belt. Now, I hear that BRP does not warranty belts any more. With the spacer installed my clutch temperatures are way down after climbing a hill in the mountains. I had run the same belt for the rest of the seasons from December 2004 untill Febuary 2006 and about 3000 miles. I replaced that belt only because it was getting to the low end of the spec as measured by calipers but it showed even wear on both sides.

I also think that the clutches work better when the secondary floats as they are not fighting each other against the belt when the engine torques in and back towards the bulkhead and secondary.
One of the guys who bought a spacer did a video of what happens as the engine is on and off the throttle and it is pretty evident as to how the secondary moves when allowed to do so.
I have also done live moving tests with my side panels and clutch guard removed and watched the secondary as it moved side to side as I accelerated on an open smooth lake.
Currently I'm also running the floating secondary on a 1000 summit 152 X 2.25" lug track and it has gone over 1000 miles and still running the original belt. Hillclimbing and worrying about how hot the clutches are is a thing of the past.....
$35 US is a small price to pay, even if it saves 1 belt, it more than pays for itself.....

The way I ride, I have probably saved myself at least 5-6 belts....not to mention, all of the dust and shrapnel created by an exploding belt....

Hope this helps....

Cheers

Can this be installed on a 600? If I were to install this could i still install one of joes kits aswell? would there still be an advantage to joes kit?
Yes, it will work on a 600 and yes, you can use it with any clutch kit. The spacer goes where the space is between the bolt and washer and your splined shaft.
Simple bolt-on.
Can anybody tell me if Duck's kit works on a ZX chassis with a RER secondary. Thanks.

Just remove your secondary bolt and washer and measure the space inside from the splined shaft to the face of the clutch. Stock measurements are about 2". The spacer is 1" in diameter so if the hole is bigger than 1" in diameter it will work. RER makes no difference. My 800 has RER as well.
Hope this helps.....

Hey Duck!

I would like one of those bad boys. That is one thing I liked about the Poo's I used to run. The secondary's floated. What is the best way to get one? I am in St Alberta 2 to 3 times a week, Live out at Alberta Beach.

Are you selling them at the sled show this weekend??
