Wilson,

You're asking for a comparison of two kits that are so similar it's hard to tell them apart. They both consist of a custom cut helix, springs and adjustable pin weights. They both perform the same function and give the same results. You really can't go wrong when choosing either of their kits - they both ROCK!

My only useful advise would be to find the best deal you can, they're both from Canada - so see if you can find a dealer in the US, some times Customs charges extra if they inspect the package???? Or see if either is offering a discount to DOOTalk members, will be at any Snow Shows in you area where you can pick one up or if there's a group purchase going on. Difference in cost and shipping is the difference to the customer. You should also look into Sled Head Racing, BJ has the same kit as well.

If you're considering a gear change also, consider replacing both sprockets and chain. 2,400 miles is a lot to just replace one sprocket without replacing the chain and other sprocket too, otherwise they'll be miss-matched. 21/45 gears would give you a nice low end/mid range response without losing much, if any, top end.

Beer good ! stock, no good !!
Take your girlfriend to a cheaper restaurant and put the savings into the sled.
Remember she can get a headache anytime !! The sled will never complain !!
Flip a coin...honestly. Even the 2 guys making these kits won't really comment. You can't go wrong with either one. Stand up guys, great kits.

Good luck
I'm sure that i saw a post where even Bill says that Joe makes a better setup for the 600 than he does.
Either way you will end up with the best performance mod for your sled that you can buy
Geez I don't remember saying that maybe Joe said it!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I think I can say for the 800 Joe's would be better for more off trail/power riding and Cudney's better for hardpack trail/drag racing with your buddies.
Bill's kits shift up fast so you better have good traction off the line or the RPM's will lag (spinning then hooking up knocks the R's down) From what I've seen Joe's is a little more forgiving (softer) off the line.
I run Bill's with a 1.25" Ripsaw and lower gearing.

I can't vouch for the 600 kits but I will be helping a friend install his Cudney kit next week in a 05' GSX 600 HO (SDI), I just wish we had some snow to do a before & after test.

I've been doing alot of research on this subject as well and my conclusions were pretty much what was stated above. It seems if you are a mountain rider or want a smooth takeoff (so you don't burry yourself)you go with Joe's, If you are a trail rider and like the hard kick off the line you go with Bills. I personally am choosing a kit from cudney along with a slight gear reduction since I ride hard packed trails mostly and like to have my arm ripped out off the line.

Wilson, I was in your boat and had major stress about which of these two quality products to buy. Both Bill and Joe have excellent reputations for their products and customer service so you can't go wrong either way. That being said I went with DJ's 600 kit for the following reasons.

His website is clutching heaven, this guy is possessed when it comes to testing and writing about it. I figured anyone who spends this much time writing about clutching most know something, this alone made my decision for me.

I like the Dalton helix, they manufacture great products.

I LOVE the Dalton adjustable pin set, this is MUCH simpler and faster to use than the screw in plugs.

I have somewhere around 4000 miles on my 600 with this kit. The characteristics that I appreciate are the back-shifting and corner to corner acceleration. I am sure Bill's set up has similar qualities but I can only comment on what mine does.

I liked DJ's kit so much I just put one in my 800.

Good luck,
Mark

So If you are a ditch banger like myself
then you are saying that i should go with bill's kit?!? I mostly just ride ditches and there is alot of places where I don't have a good runway and I want that Giddy Up to get me to that approach so I can start flying!

Nope! I would never make an attempt to convey an unappealing perception of you or other vendors in our community here.

I'm not wired like that.

.......unless its something made my heelclunker
then I would...
...and I have
...and I enjoy doing it.
...and i can't wait for the opportunity to do it again. View attachment 64554
Joe: It was just a little jab. I do agree with heelclunker though. Most people on here don't realize that Joe and I know each other and have met a few times at snowmobile shows etc., by the way Joe will we see you in Toronto agian this year. -- Bill

We'll have to hook up this year, I ride an all black renegade and hang out with John (ran Pawn run last year) I'm curious to see to see the new xr-s...I will have to disagree with the "smooth" take-off theory, 'cause my sled will snatch your arms out of the sockets if ya aint ready...
