Clutch Belt

Yeah - this isn't much of a post, but I just can't wait for the snow!
For the Pre-Winter tune up, should I put in my 'Spare' unused $90+ clutch belt and then have the one with 1100 miles on it as the spare?
Thanks

yup!
I just drive till they blow and then put a new one on. Why have a junker for spare when it may only get you 10 or 15 miles.

10 or 15 miles could get you some place that you can fix your sled. I always have a spare that have aleast 100 miles or so on it. I put my new one on this year...

That's fine but I would rather have my belt puke out 15 miles into a ride and then put on a new belt that is good for 500 plus miles. Would you put used rings and pistons in your sled just to get through a trip/vacation?

I understand what you mean.

If he was going to go and buy a new one as soon as he put the other one on that is a different story. My thought behind it is that I don't want to buy another belt this season so, I put a new one on at the beginning. I have a spare that I could ride on for a day or two (until I get a new one) if it blows. I get 1500-2000 miles out of a new belt. Last year I didn't get that much millage on because of the snow.

I don't like to have a new belt on hand all the time because then I sell the sled and I have 80 or 90 bucks in belts that are useless because you never get as much money back on them.

Everyone has a different theory,

I see where you're coming from. I just wish i could get the mileage you're getting out of your belts. The best i have had is about 600 miles.

Might want to look into your alignment then...that's REALLY bad.

Had it checked and the allignment is fine. Just might have to invest in one of them Dynamo Joe clutch kits to see if that would make a difference.
I tend to run a belt untill it's done, replace it with the spare and so on to keep it all in rotation. Might look into having a dedicated spare and use a fresh belt to run on. Makes sense not to run the new belt untill you can adjust the cluch alignment.
I wouldn't run a belt till it blows. You're taking a chance that the cords wrap around the crank behind the primary and take out the crank seal. I get 2,000 - 2,500 miles on my belts and replace at beginning of every season. Keep the old one for spare to get home only.
i got little over 2000miles on my orignal belt=05 machz.my old f3 used to get 500 if i was lucky so im prety happy with that.will be putting a fresh one on for this year thoe.
I forget how many miles I put on my sled last season, but I put the old belt back on, keep my new one as the spare...when it goes, it goes.
Old belt looks the same as the new one, in fact it was hard to tell them apart without a real close inspection.

I still have the original on my 04 REV. But I am going to change it this fall. It's still not too bad, but starting to dry out. I'll swap in my brand new spare and buy a new spare to keep underhood.

I used to carry 2 spare belts with my old SRV. Seems like that thing ate a belt about every 35 feet.

That is funny.

I have a Cudney Clutch kit hat I get that millage out of.

Yeah i've had that problem b4...I ran the spare on my 583 the first year I had it but it wasn't the right belt, the guy b4 me just threw it in there and I assumed it was for my sled. Well...she blew (literally) at 90mph down a road. I'm still finding pieces of it in my belly pan.

I hear ya! I have only blown one belt, long ago. I meant I runthem untill they are minimun spec or smoked by a kid or friend. I think I am going to have a dedicated "spare" for emergencies and replace it ASAP and adjust deflection for riding.
