No I am not sponsored or otherwise. But I recently grabbed a CKX Mission helmet from Rosseau Road in Port Sydney and holy ****, it is the best thing ever, so I thought I'd rant about that for a second.

I came from a combo MX / Goggle setup which worked really well...or so I thought. The mission isn't cheap but it does EVERYTHING better. If you're in the market for a helmet, get one. I legitimately can't imagine there's a better helmet out there. Here's why:
  • It doesn't fog. EVER. -20, out of breathe and dripping with sweat from digging your sled out, with not even a hint of motion to provide airflow? Doesn't matter. Doesn't fog. It's insane how good it is.
  • It's so bloody warm. There is ZERO wind or airflow interference. I no longer ride with my balaclava, even on railbeds at -20...just a thin neck warmer. Between the various skirts that velcro up and my jacket, no wind gets in at all. This makes a HUGE difference in reducing fatigue on longer rides.
  • For almost the exact same reason as above, it's quiet. Most people may not care...but it makes a big difference for three reasons. One, it's less mentally tiring when you're riding 6-8 hours a day. Two, it's way easier to hear your music. Three, when combined with the complete lack of wind or cold, it's an almost therapeutic experience. I know this sounds ridiculous but man it's amazing.
  • The visibility, in any condition. Huge field of view through a crystal clear lens, much better than my goggles. Can't decide if it's sunny or cloudy? No worries - the sun shield flips up and down instantly and easily, while riding, so you're always prepared. Sun right in your eyes? Flip the "peak" down to the bottom position and you're set. There's never a compromise...within seconds it can adapt to any conditions.
I never thought I could care even remotely this much about a piece of riding gear but I am so over the top in love with this helmet it's insane. It was worth every penny and then some!!!

Snell testing is geared toward racing automobiles. The test includes multiple hard hits in the same spot to replicate hitting a roll bar. This results in a helmet that is too “hard” and transmits impacts typically found in motorcycle and snowmobile crashes more directly. The DOT test is more applicable to snowmobile applications in my opinion. The lack of a Snell rating is not consequential, at least to me.

I like mine but it ain’t perfect. Without being plugged in with cold temps and slower trail speeds mine definitely fogs. Worse if I wear any type of balaclava. Once speed picks up it clears but it definitely fogs at slow speeds. Maybe I need a new nose piece?? For sure every time I try and use the inner visor it’s fogged solid as soon as you put it down and stays fogged. Useless I’m my opinion. I’ve had a smoked one and the yellow one and they are both the same. I like the helmet for the most part but in my experience it’s a long way from perfect. I’ve had it for 3 seasons now

Wasn’t there an update on them, did you get it done
Have you tried opening front vents?

I just bought one from Rosseau as well, so far with limited use, seems to work great.
I bought heated shield but no plans to use unless needed.
Only thing I don’t like is the skirt, the Velcro sticks to my jacket, but I think I can remove it.

It’s a great helmet for me, but just like every other type of helmet, it’s not for everyone. After years of the Doo Modular or a BVS2 and a Castle, I’m glad to have the Mission. There are some things that maybe are not perfect, but what is. I did get mine with the electric shield because 1: it was a fortune, 2: to buy it after the fact when I need it most, would maybe not happen. I’d rather have it and not need it vs not have it when needed.

Tried mine only a couple days last season and it was good. Just used it for 4 day in temps of -20c to -27c everyday without plugging it in once. Got a little fogging in the upper top corners on each side (nowhere near my field of view) but it went away within the first 5 mins of riding. I was warm while riding with my Brp ultimate balaclava in these temps. I will agree about the sun visor being pretty much useless, worked for a bit on the first day but following day was all fogged up and not usable. Not sure if I plugged it in, if the heat off the shield would clear the sun visor fog?? May give it a try next time I encounter the issue. Perhaps some others can comment if any difference made here??

My sun visor fogs in those temps too.

Never tried to use it to clear the sun visor but the one time I've had it plugged in I could certainly feel the heat radiating on my face.

Well, I have the Mission Carbon nonheated shield and my brother has the O2. It was cold this past weekend -27F and -15F to start on Friday and Saturday. I had zero problems with my Mission I can't say the same for his O2 he couldn't run it on the max setting it keep shutting off so his glasses keep fogging. He is less than impressed with it before you ask this is his second season with it all be it we dint encounter temps like this last year. This Mission is the best helmet I have ever used. I have had the original Modular great helmet for its time then I had the second-gen before they started calling them the Mod 2 then a BVs since 2015. I can't say enough good things about the CKX Mission!

I saw this earlier, sounds awesome!
As far as Snell rated,my BV2S obviously isn’t, and it works great, but I’d hate to get in the slightest of accident with it. It’s the biggest pile I’ve ever put on my head! It makes HJC feel like a Troy Lee it’s so bad fitting and cheap, but again, it works.

Folks: I read up on this helmet and wow. Well engineered. Wish I had read more about it before I bought my Oxygen helmet.

But... After reading how this wonderful helmet works, I took the nose piece from my trusty GMax 54S and fitted it to my Oxygen. And again, wow. I ended up removing the silly breath diverter in the Oxygen and ran with just the nose piece from the GMax. The fogging when I pulled to a stop ended. I was able to run with the visor on the first setting, not the third. The visor did not end up with a coating of condensed water, and the sun screen also stayed clear. I am going to do more work perfecting the new nose piece, but if my first attempt is an indication, going to love it. Probably not as much as the Mission. But, already own the Oxygen.

When I get it perfected, I'll post it on a second tread. And apologize in advance for diverting this tread, but thought it appropriate to contribute that the Mission technology works, really works.

I just bought a non-heated Mission after reading the reviews here.

I wear glasses and the only thing that semi worked for me was a motocross helmet and goggles, but my glasses would still fog if not moving. That combination was also pretty bad below +5°F as cold air would find its way around the goggles.

Now, after a 150 mile ride with the Mission, I'm really happy. In today's temps (3° to 23°F) there was almost zero fogging, glasses and shield. There was only very minor fogging when putting on a cold helmet after a stop but that's really being nitpicky and was almost unnoticeable. The little that was there cleared up in a quarter mile or so. No fogging at all on the sunscreen. I had worn a light weight balaclava throughout.

The helmet is a little quieter than my motocross combo and comfortably warm at speed - no drafts. No fogging during stops or need to lift the face shield.

I might still might convert it to a heated shield in case I run into freezing precipitation. That model wasn't available at the time of purchase so I went with the unheated version, which will probably be fine 99% of the time.

I wish I would have had this helmet decades ago. Worth every penny.

What is the vision quality through the drop down yellow lens. Does it distort/warp your view at all?

Haven't got mine to fog but I did find a need to plug it in a couple weeks back. It was snowing and it was really fine snow and evidently it is warm enough on it's own in the upper space that the snow would stick but not melt or evaporate. Plugging in pretty much solved it. I'm fortunate in that the helmet right out of the box fits me like a glove so there's that. I got the Carbon Fiber version and the weave is bad ass imho. I've run all three visors and I get kick out of running the smoke/Vader visor. I don't feel it is as quiet as the OP thinks it is but I would give the helmet a 9 out of 10 without blinking.

This was my 2nd season with the Mission. I got it without e-shield cause I hate cords. I wear glasses. I love it! Rode in 40 to -20 with no issues. My glasses fog if stand around when cold and then shut helmet. I find closing it before glasses cool off is best. I don't wear a face mask cause don't like them either. Its a very warm helmet. I do wear a neck thing when its real cold. I wiil probably have issues without e-shield in a mist or rain. Also, it got to warm in the 40ish temps but thats getting to warm to ride anywy.

On my second season with the mission. I find the helmet to be very warm and often run with my shield cracked open, I have the electric shield but only rarely use it when it’s cold out and I’m running hard through rough trails it will fog up in the extreme peripheral on each side of my shield not blocking any vision but it bothers me to have anything on my shield so then I plug it in and the fogging quickly disappears. Overall I am pleased with the Mission helmet once fitted correctly for your face you just can’t go wrong it’s a dam good helmet.

I purchase a CKX Mission AMS Helmet with electric shield for this season. Main reason so I can wear my glasses. So far, this season have ridden 3200 miles from -30 degrees Fahrenheit to this past day riding in freezing rain. with 3/16 of ice on accumulated on the sled. The shield didn.t freeze up. My glasses will fog if stand around in the cold and then shut helmet. What I do to help with this I have my shield wired right to the battery with using the E LinQ system so when stop and the sled not running the shield stays warm. When I start riding, I crack the shield clears the fog out then I all set to go. I do not wear a face mask now. I started off using it and then one day it came loose when I open the shield to talk, I was lazy and did not re install it. I found without it my glass clear up faster than when I was using it. I now don’t use the mask at all, I really don’t like cords. But with the E LinQ system and running the cord through my jacket I can live with it so I can have the benefit of wear my glasses. For me it’s a very warm helmet. I do wear a Balaclava under it. It not as quiet as the Oxygen helmet that I have had owned before, but as noisy as some other ones I tried in the past. If something happens to this helmet, I will replace it with the same one.

Also, I forgot to add, the visor/peak was going just remove it and not use it when I bought the helmet. Left it on found it to be useful when riding early morning and the sun is just coming up, I just pull it down and block the glare and the inner yellow sun visor found it to be useful when I’m riding in white out conditions I can see the trail better.

Glad to hear you love the helmet. Do you get any visor glare like the bv2s and oxygen does?
Those 2 helmets are brutal at night riding.

I've never had any issues with glare on my visor and I do a lot of night riding because on weekends, when I need to get around up north, I can't use a car. All local riding and on my lake but hours of time riding at night. Zero issues.

As for the heated shield melting freezing rain...darn. I have to imagine it won't hurt, but I was admittedly hoping it would help a notable amount.

While I’ll also point out, the size/type of windshield on the snowmobile makes a difference in effectiveness of the helmets too. While a lot of people like the look of the lower windshield, as I found out last year when I put a PowerMadd Cobra tall windshield on and it was effective more so then any BRP mid height windshield I’ve had before. So, before we can claim any helmet being the answer, look at your windshield if your having helmet trouble. When you can keep a bunch of the wind or sleet of your face, combatting it becomes easier I feel. I suspect if I get my g5 this year, since a mid height is the tallest option, I won’t be surprised if the conditions I had last year are maybe more challenging this year, maybe not, time will tell.
