Hey guys need a little help,

I just purchased a 24 tooth top gear, can someone give me quick run down on changing it. I believe after drainin the oil and removing the cover there is a cotter pin and nut to be removed, but what about the tensioner.

thanks for your help!

yup just pull the pin take off the nut , put new gear in and put a NEW cotter pin in as well dont take a chance with the old one. turn the tensioner finger tight(no wrench) and back off till the holes line up for the pin that goes through the tensioner bolt.

Open the case. loosen the tensioner. Pull the pin out and take the nut and chain off. Be sure you do not overtighten it when you put it back together. and clean out the case good. It is very easy.

Make sure you don't over tighten the bolts for the case. I put a little too much TeamScream power into mine and it snapped. Another thing to remember is to finger tighten the chain tensioner and then back off a half of a turn. When the chain heats up it actually shrinks slightly and tigtens up. I snapped my chain last winter and I think it was due o the fact that my chain was too tight even though it was only finger tight. My $0.02.
-Good luck

A lot of riders could benefit from reading and REREADING TeamScream's excellent post. I just roll my eyes at the guys tensioning their bolts so tight and then barely backing off to get the pin in the hole and they wonder why their chains are breaking (especially the guys w/ extroverts - whole thread about this in the mountain forum an they all seem clueless!).

HALF TURN OUT = NO PROBLEMS!
