I loosen the bolts, then pry the bottom open to let the oil drain out. Spray all around the inside of the case with brake cleaner until it's clear running out the bottom then button it up and add new oil. Be careful tightening the bolts ... They don't require much torque.
Removing the cover on the case is my preference to get all the gunk out. As mentioned, go easy on the bolts as they are self tapping and they are known to strip. Torque spec. Is 10Nm. See photo for the recommended order when tightening the bolts.
Anyone have a good how to on removing the extra stuff needed before removing the case cover? I looked at it once but didn't get into it since the reverse lever and some other stuff looked to be in the way, just looked a little intimidating. (16 expedition sport 600 ace)
