. You do not need to change the inner half of the chain case to go from no reverse to reverse. You can leave your inner half in place. Some of the internals of the 99 set up will fit work in the 2001 case. Most or all ( cant remember for certain) of the gears are compatible. There is a item called a "chain slider, it is different from 99 to2001 and is important to have in there. You would need to find a case cover for your sled with the shift fork.
The external shift linkage is totally different from 99 to 01, you need all that stuff.

You may be thinking I`ll get the 99 set up and use the internals, then find the case cover and shift linkage separately. I find this to be quite costly in the end as you may source parts from several location.

Details are kind of important here too. A 99 Formula 500 should be S-chassis, while the 2001 MXZ600 should be ZX.
