Planning a trip farther east than we usually track. Looking to stay in Big Bay, Gwinn, Grand Marais, or someother town in the central region where we hear they have better snow.

Can anyone make a recommendation for clean lodging?

Any trail reports in the area?

If you go to Munising the Alger Falls Motel, if you go to Seney, the Fox River motel. Both great mom and pop places, and cheap. Don't know the phone numbers. If you get on www.fishweb.com and check out trail conditions, the conditions for Seney are posted by the owner of Fox River motel.

The Best Western in Munising is a good choice.

The Best western is nice, I just think they're too dang expensive IMHO, just like the Comfort Inn. Also Alger Falls has a heated garage to work on your sled.

The Northwoods Motor Lodge in Grand Marais is neat and clean with lots of room for trailer parking. Around $70.00 a night, Depending on the size of your group you might look into renting a cabin or cabins. When split between 4 or 6 or 8 people can sometimes be less than a motel. Also depending on your eating preferences, cooking in a cabin is less expensive than taking every meal in a restaurant or bar. Hilltop Cabins or Sunset Cabins in Grand Marais are recommended.

Just got back from the UP North Lodge UPnorthlodge.com in Gwinn which i highly reccommend. 15 rooms at reasonable prices, gas resturant/bar with great food all in 1 building. Is the DNR trailhead in that area and lots of parking. They do horse drawn sleigh rides also.
