I think I already know the answer but I’m working on this 05 600sdi adrenaline and want to keep repair as cheap as possible as the machine is old and not worth a lot. The mag flywheel magnets had cracked and broke apart. Thought the stator was ok until I took it out. I don’t know the parts of the stator but you can see that some of the things around the outside of the stator are bent out of shape. I don’t think they would scrub on the flywheel. Can I use this stator? Or do I need a different one? Also what’s the best way to clean it? Manual says only to use a clean rag. There are tiny bits of magnet stuck to it. Thanks for any replies

Those are the iron core laminations that have been worn. They can get some wear and still be fine. But the couple of spots where they core laminations have separated and twisted are the concern. If they have twisted and cut through the insulation into the wires, then that is not going to work. That last picture looked like the bend core laminations have definitely pushed into the wires, so that one damage spot is probably fatal.

Guess you have to ask yourself two questions. One, are you willing to go through all that work putting it back together and taking it off again if it doesn’t work? Two, if it does work how long will it work? I wouldn’t trust that out on the trail somewhere.

Had the same issue with an 06 SDI that was new to me last year, testing was pointing to a bad stator and ended up getting an aftermarket stator and flywheel off a SDI 1000. Learned my lesson on buying used, check charging system magnets were cracked and glued back in place.

Thanks for all the replies, I don’t think those stators are to expensive anyways so I will look into getting a new or good used one. In the first reply he said they usually have some wear. Does the stator make contact with the magnets or is it just really close to the flywheel?

There should be no contact between the flywheel and the stator. Good luck with your repairs!

Thanks Seabass, so someone glued the magnets back in place on a used flywheel you purchased? Where did you order if from? Was it eBay?
Yeah the seller of the sled had the magnets epoxied back in, but one was cracked, the stator looked just like yours. The sled failed on it's first ride in the yard lucky I was able to find a guy that was parting out a couple Mach Z's and was able to put in an upgraded flywheel with the one piece magnet. There are no SDI flywheels available from BRP or any other aftermarket distributors from my research. I saw some on eBay but they wanted an arm and leg for them. There are after market stators out there I think I got that one from eBay or Dennis Kirk and it was a bit of a choir to install, but the repair turned out good.

Oddly the closest ski Doo dealer in Cornwall Ontario had a new flywheel in stock for 550.00 plus tax, he wasn’t sure if it was the updated flywheel or not. I looked on eBay and yes they were ranging from 380.00 to over 800.00 for used flywheel. I ended up getting one from cycle salvage In Peterborough for 200.00 plus 40.00 shipping. Not the 1 piece magnet but in beautiful shape. Maybe I’m thinking wrong but I would prefer a good used stator from a reputable salvage yard than a new aftermarket one. Not a lot of experience but I always worry the aftermarket stuff won’t fit and/or work right.
