Hi all,
This is a VERY newbie question, but Ive gotta ask. On an 01 700 twin how do you change the belt? I dont have a way to get the sled to a dealer, and I figure it can't be that tough. So who better to ask than the experts here at Dootalk who've helped me out in the past. Thanks in advance for your help, & THINK SNOW!

Also what do you folks run in the chaincase for oil? Ive heard Mobil 1 synthetic, Ive also heard ATF works, but these are things Ive heard from people whose opinions I dont really trust. Thanks again for the help!

There's a tool that should be in your tool kit that you thread into a hole near the center of your secondary clutch to spread the sheaves apart. Once they are spread apart, you can pull the belt off the secondary then take it off around the primary.

I personally use snowmobile chaincase oil. Sure there's cheaper things out there that you can use, but for less than $7 per year, I'll keep using chaincase oil. I find it's one less thing to worry about while riding. I use the exact stuff that the company that makes my gears/chain recommends.

I have friends that have used 10w30 motor oil, chainsaw oil, tranny fluid, 80w90 gear lube, all without any issues over thousands of miles.
Like 97Mach1 said, use the tool in the tool pouche that came on the sled.

As for Chaincase oil, you have MANY options. You can just go buy the Doo chaincase oil or Amsoil chaincase oil if you want, or if you want to save a couple bucks get yourself a quart of Mobil 1 15W-50 full synthetic motor oil. I've used that for the past 2 seasons, i've noticed zero difference between using it and the chaincase oil.
There is a tool that almost looks like a cork screw, and there is a thread whole on you secondary. (Only one on secondary so you can't miss it.) Thread in until belt is loose enough to take off. Put new on and unthread tool and belt should be good to go. might have to run it and engage the clutch to get it to sit at top of secondary.

As far as gear lube, I am with 97Mach1. I use snowmobile chaincase lube that it calls for. I have heard of ATF, Mobil1 Syn and many others but like Mach said... One less thing to worry about. Sled will opperate just the same.

Hope thing helps... Do The DOO!!
