Battery removal

I just got a 2025 850 with 10.25 screen. I found out it has a battery behind the seat, and was wondering if I could remove it. I would like to put a storage case there that will not fit with the battery. I am guessing the screen won't work when the machine is turned off, but I don't see how that would be a problem? Are there any other issues I may have with removing the battery?

Actually the battery could be used to dampen the voltage fluctuation for the screen, the VR by its self might not be enough and the LCD screen could be damaged by voltage spikes and brown outs.

I have never seen BRP add extra gear on any vehicle they build if it is not necessary, especially on the electrical side, meaning there is a reason the battery is there.

I could be wrong as I am not related to BRP in any way and this is all speculation on my part.

Yes, that is a possibility. I would not want to damage the screen, however a big battery seems like overkill just to dampen voltage fluctuations? Hopefully there is someone on here that can verify. If is is just to run the screen when the sled is off, I don't need that, but if it does more, then that is important do know.

Batteries can indeed serve as a 'ballast' on the system to stabilize the voltage. But in the ETEC system, the 12 volts is derived from the 55-60 volts system via a DC-DC converter. That DC-DC converter output will be quite stable simply due to its design, AND the 55-60 volt system has a capacitor for the system's voltage stabilization.

FWIW:
  • The 2024 schematic for the 850 Backcountry with SHOT shows no battery whatsoever.
  • The 2024 schematic for the MXZ 850 Turbo R with SHOT shows a battery but it only connects from the battery charging output of the ECM and to the cluster.
  • The 2024 schematic for the 850, 8509 Turbo R, and 600R Summit and Freeride with SHOT shows no battery whatsoever.

So I agree with the OP's view: Without that small battery, there would be no way to activate the display with the sled not running unless the SHOT system ultra-cap can do that... but I don't recall or think that is what SHOT does.
