Anyone put a 1.5" 121 in a FIII

Hey guys,

I was here a while ago asking if the 1.25" would fit in my 97 Formula III 600, but the track I was supposed to be buying ended up being a POS and the best deal I've found now is on a 1.5"...will this go in with the same ease?

I plan on getting the protectors for the exchanger and droping the suspension into the lower holes.....is that it?

Chime in if you had an experience with this!!

I have a 1.25" in my 97 Mach 1, same tunnel as your 97 FIII. Which 1.5" track are you considering? A friend of mine runs the Camoplast 1.5" Intense track. I forget the model number. The center part of the middle lugs do hit the front of the heat exchangers, but I don't think it's anything serious. He's ran it for about 5,000 miles so far.

I wouldn't get any heat exchanger protectors, unless the track is notched above the clips.

I wouldn't ever think about studding a track with lugs taller than 1" on a F chassis sled.

Notched above the clips...can you explain more? They told me at doo that I better get them if I want to go to 1.5...but nothing else and I prefer real life experience. I won't be pickin the track..thats not my thing..

This is a camoplast I do beleive off a MXZ670...so I know it will fit..but I guess I should see what they did.
A lot of tracks have a notch cut out of the lugs along the track windows, where the clips are. My stock track was like that. I had to run very tall tunnel protectors in order for the studs not to hit the heat exchangers. At least taller ones than the ones I used back then.

I guess if I were going to run the 1.5 Doo track on a 97 FIII, I would take a set of tunnel protectors, and cut them down a little on a table saw. Normal tunnel protectors will probably be too tall, and would rub all the time.

You will have to run a 1.5" track pretty tight. Don't expect to go too much faster than 90 or 95 mph.
I'm willing to give a little top end to beat them all off the line and have the extra fun of the "walking"...even tho that FIII is a pretty hard lift..
